I want MOO3 DLC Races now. :)
Now that I see the MOO2 races in the game, I really would love to see the MOO3 races now as DLC as well.

What do you think? Yes, no, don't care?

Do you think new races shold be implemented as something new? If so, what would you like to see? Right now I just want MOO3 races before new ones come in. How about you?

The Havesters would be great.Having a species that require alien pops to eat would be a good mechanic.
I miss the Nommo.

Yes, I would also like to see the harvesters and other moo3 races in a dlc.

I never played MoO 3 but more races would always be awesome.

I'd rather they first add more features from MoO2 that are missing. However they do have to pay for further development and more playable races tend to be a good sell. I know I'm buying.

Where would we put all these races? I'd rather see them creating an expansion with all the missing cool features that I can buy than more races that I can't play against anyways.

Besides the Harvesters, what interesting game mechanics were tied to the other MOO3 races?

I think I have to come out against it.

I would like to see continued development of course, and if it was a choice between this or nothing, then I would certainly rather have more stuff than no stuff. But MOO3 holds practically zero nostalgia appeal for me.

That's 9 races, and a lot of loot spent on voice actors and art direction. If they are going to spend that kind of cash, I would rather see it go into a custom race editor, that is capable of creating facsimiles of the MOO3 races, as well as hundreds of others.
I mean the sort of Orion Maker expansion pack where we are not limited to stock races, but can customize the art and sounds assets of Races, to create, save, and share all sorts of ideas.

The first issue with releasing stock MoO3 races in DLC is branding. Granted it tried to introduce novel features, but the execution was botched and they basically bailed on us after launch. Reminding some of us about MoO3 at this point is kind of a rub. So I'd hate for them to drop 9 more races in dlcs, leave other stuff unfinished and then fly away, having that be the last thing we see.

However if it was billed as a full on custom race creation system, that was capable of reproducing all the current races, plus moo3 races, and additional races that only Orion could dream up, then I would go for it.

If the game engine was developed to the point that one could create facsimiles of all previous Orion games using it, that would actually be pretty cool. Conceived as a kind of emulator that allows for UI modifications, custom assets mods etc. In other words, the ability to use custom settings and editor tools to make a MOO3 style game if one wanted. Or a MOO1 style game for that matter, depending on what kind of tools they include. Galaxies with up to 25 opponents and things of that sort.

But as a straight up solo thing, with the MOO3 Race as part of a DLC of the same sort they just gave us with the MOO2 races? For use in the current CtS game? I don't know, of that I'm pretty wary.

They don't fit very well with the lore of the current Revenge of Antares timeline. They would need an updated timeline with the Antarans already ascendant to fit with the MoO3 lore.

I think the desire for more Races could best be accommodated by a more open ended full scale expansion, than by dlc. Where one could play a variety of races in the Master of ORION universe, limited only by their imagination and creativity in the custom Race editor.

Then of course, if they wanted to showcase that editor by giving us all the MOO1, MOO2, and MOO3 races as stock models to choose from then everyone is happy.

It would be so much cooler though, if they just go really big time with the custom race concept, by making the race creation process in MOO a bit like a D&D style thing, where you build off archetypes and have tons of potential models/combinations to choose from.

Otherwise, if they're not going that far with it, I'd rather they put the zots on tactical combat, and the campaign game mechanics, instead of on more default races to sell us.

Not to be a grinch to the MOO3 fans. I suppose if that's the direction they take it, I'd have to grin and bear it, since some people are MOO1 purists and probably don't care for MOO2 races. I guess it's only fair for people who want the MOO3 guys too, long as they keep working on the broader game. I just wish it would be a bigger goal not to just to get more races, but to get more tools.

i always thought that the Harvesters were a pretty interesting concept for a race.... MOO3 in general made one eye tear up as i played.... uninstalled, and double face palmed :spazdunno:
it "is" good to see it did not kill the series forever though.

Yes, I think everyone agrees that the Harvesters were cool. But the problem is that most of the others are pretty bland and generic.

Now memory is fading on me and I can be totally wrong here, but they also had temperature climates zones as well as gravity. So depending where the "sweet spot" was for you, what was a Gaia planet for Imases (I think that is the name, gas bag race) would not be a Gaia planet for humans.

I could be wrong again, but what was a sweet spot for you, you could also have more population as well. Either my memory is fading or this was wish listing now. Can't remember.

Game was rushed and unifinshed so the other races were never given the proper attetion to make them colourful and exciting.

Sorry but, there are very very few things to take from MoO3, and the MoO3 races are not part of it.

Why? It's subjective, but for me and all my friends who played MoO3, the fluff and the background story around the MoO3 races were 'off-topic', and artisticaly not consistent with the ones from MoO2.

Really. You had for example a race of pseudo alien parasite with a very 'horror-style' look (the 'Harvester'). Compared to the slighty cartoon and colorfull races of MoO2, it felt very wrong.

It was one of the numerous fails of this game, and the most obvious one to me.

I'd love to see the Ithkul as a DLC race, I'd pay for that! Their backstory as a parasitic bioweapon unleashed on the galaxy by the Antarans was interesting but they would need to have their game mechanics and possibly tech tree overhauled.

I also liked the idea of the Etherean races that lived on gas giants. I don't think the current MOO could support something like that though.

Moo3 had an interesting concept where there were similar races within a group, the problem was that ultimately many of the races across all groups weren't diverse enough so nobody used them.
Humanoid - Human, Evon, Psilon
Cybernetik - Meklar, Cynoid
Saurian - Sakkra, Raas, Grendarl
Ichthytosian - Trilar, Nommo
Etherean - Imsaeis, Eoladi
Geodic - Silicoid
Insecta - Klackon, Tachidi
Harvester - Ithkul

this game is well on its way to being a classic that will never die. it just needs a few things

1. better mod support - atm we can't do total conversions or really in depth modding like scripting
2. removal of artificial limitations - add a way to have more than 6 minor races, or 1 monster / gurdian per system, or 9 players.
