Can you do anything with volcanic planets?
The only food you can have is from biosphere, hydoponic farm, fungal farm? I cant even go on the food tiles. Cant seem to terraform either. Does exporting export food and production?

You can also add subterranean farms when you get that tech. No, you can't do much else with them, foodwise. But that's fine, since they usually don't suport much population anyway. They often have mineral rich biomes, making them good production centers. You also don't need to worry about pollution, since the biome can't possibly get any worse. Shove all the meeples onto production slots and build away.

If you are the Silicoids, who don't give a @@@@ about food in any case, you can transform them into Inferno planets, which is the Silicoid idea of Utopia.

Well, there are mods that add in a building that allows you to cool down a volcano and turn it into a barren world, but i use the mod that gives a special Antaran thing that allows you to turn anything into a terran and later a Gaia.

You can alos build the interplanetary administration building on a non-volcanic planet in the same system if there is one. That is the only way to share food.

mid game I have an ultra-rich 8 pop churning out battleships every 12 turns, not too shaby!

wouldnt you build the interplanetary administraion ON the volcano planet, and set the other planet to export? Would it transport food or production to the volcano?

The planet with the administration exports food, the other planets export production if set to do so. I would put the IA on a planet with best food production. From the description, it appears that any planet in the system with excess food production contributes to food transfer but I am unsure that is so. Production is only shared to the IA planet.

I wouldn't put it on the volcano planet as it has little food to spare and lots of production if it has sufficient minerals.

There's a later tech to terraform volcanic to barren, and races that take the 'inferno world' ability or volcanic homeworld in the base game) can turn volcanic worlds into inferno worlds, which have much higher pop.

Yeah they are neat for silicoids, but pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ for everyone else.

Volcanic planets are good for silicoids (obviously) and may be usefulf for meklar combine (the cyborgs have reduced food conspumption, just don't expect the colony to grow at meaningful rate and import the population yourself). A rich volcanic planet with a moon is a candidate for your main shipyard.

gift it to someone you want to go to war with then blow it up and rebuild the asteroid field into a new, better planet

The Administration Center (AC for short) makes ALL worlds in a given system to share across all food between them in any direction needed (even if the planet with the AC is neither importing or exporting by itself).

AC building location is only important for production points, as this is the only planet able to Import production, and all other planets in the same system are only able to Export production.

Back to the Inferno Biome, in the base game they are usually of low interest for anyone except those races tailored for them (those with the Lava Breather trait and/or races which don't care about food production like Lithovores or Cybernetic to a lesser degree). For any other race, the Volcanic can end up being a decent production world, but setting it up would be a pretty big resource investment, (usually only worth if you dont have any other planet able to be colonized). Admin Center would be extremely valuable if your other in-system planets can provide food. Else, you will need to populate it with civil transports, as the regular growth rate would be non existant.

There are a few mods for deal with them though. I used one which allow you to terraform them to Barren after researching Trans Genetics. And after that, they can follow the regular terraforming path up to Gaias...

Regards

L

Hooray for planetary surfaces that act as ready-made Core Waste Dumps!
