Exactly the same. The only difference is steam can track your hours played and GOG you get the .exe so you can install it easily whenever you want. Sadly steam doesn't have workshop setup for TA.

gamespy was really just a hack to allow IPX games to play over IP connections. It was more of a matchmakign service in a time when most games didnt have any kind of online capabilities.

Steam delivers games to players, so its a retail outlet. Totally different from gamespy.

steam is the same, in terms of being an "online service, most of games of its time depend on". Except for gamespy was used only for matchmaking (thus after its death, related games still work, just require some workarounds to access multiplayer), while steam, as you've said, is also a drm-driven (I wont mind these 10-15 games that dont feature steamworks drm) store (so - if volvo will go bankrupt, all steam games will turn completely unplayable)

if you guys actually do your research and experimentation, there is a place called tauniverse, and their 3.9.02 hack-a-trash version replaces the steam version anyway, not to mention its 3.1c-or some bs and has no steam with it anyways lmfao

Ignore Cyphierion. The GoG and Steam versions both work fine, GoG is a DRM free service so you can buy games and keep them regardless of what may or may not happen to GoG (GoG isn't going anywhere though).
