Despite it being a rare issue, I would happily join a support group for victims of bad map generation.
I went the entirety of Hungary last night without a single non-boss encounter... right after I'd invested heavily into Anthropology. Was a great time.
LOL. This. Egypt and Mali are my least familiar maps.
Also Hungary and Transylvania - when I REALLY need just one particular treasure in those places (Hunting plate, portrait!), it never spawns. Likewise the Zombie spawn - I generally don't have Engineering (A gold/science stat requirement for treasure? On a status map? Really?!) and Quick Thinking at 3 on two separate chars, and it wastes one of the rather better treasures. Everywhere else is pretty reasonable.
Lost Island - getting the 3 vital spawns in the right places: A) The dog training yard, B) the Medal of Secrecy spawn and C) the paliantologist. When they're all round the outside and the expedition ends are in the wrong place too, it's time to say hello to debuffs :P
Honourable mentions - the empty hut for the voodoo mask in Emerged island. Not so much that it's not there, but that you get 4 or 5 empty spots in the middle of the island so you've no idea which it'll be and always pick it wrong (Or when the ONLY access point you can reach is the expensive one that ends you on 6 supply instead of 7). Similarly, the teaser parts of the crystal all in the middle of the island and the actual pieces in the furthest three corners.
EDIT: Corrected misuse of Anthropologist, thank you Animus!
Mali: Chuckles
Transylvania: Zombie (stupid requirements for a status expedition.)
To be fair, Hugarian usually has 1/2 usable Class A/B tresures; i.e.,
Portrait is always good, probably the best;
Savior and Hunting plate cover two different niches, so only one of them is good (unless it is a general build with many skills)
Ace and Mix are just awful for scoring purposes.
I think the requirement for Zombie should have been "either" not "and". I could have been mistaken.
Technically, he is a "paleontologist", scholar of prehistoric animals; whereas anthropologist is someone who studies humans.
Also, any Emerged Island spawn with a lot of empty nodes (or just more than one) in the center of the map. Makes it really hard to plan a route that visits the Voodoo Queen - a feat which I've only managed to do once at all. Math is hard enough sometimes.
Edit: basically what BlackVision just said while I was typing this up. ^^
Interesting, because in my experience the paleontologist almost always spawns close to the machine.
Now I am confused. Celtic Helmet? Do you mean Viking Helmet? But why, for the achievement?
Anyway, this BS just happened. I mean, I should have been grateful that so many supply nodes spawned, but seriously...
