But why? The game was bad
I'm a huge fan of the film, easily #1 best movie ever made. But the game is really bad and totally unfaithful to the film. It's clear the original developers didn't even watch the film or didn't understand any of it and what The Thing actually was. The game treats The Thing as if it's a virus, even calling it the "cloud virus" on some in game computer log. The story was poorly written / totally cheesy and had nothing to do with the film at all.. I cAn cOnTroL thE ViRuS iN mY boDy. When that isn't how it works at all. The Thing is an intelligent biological lifeform (not a virus) that completely assimilates and imitates the victim. The original person or animal is dead when it takes you over..

And why did the game have literally 20,000 monsters roaming around? Made no sense. They made it into a mindless action shooter with no real story or sense of direction.

Even more disappointing that John Carpenter considers this game "canon" when it totally contradicts his masterpiece film.

The Thing truly deserves a properly made video game. This needs to be scrapped, forgotten about and redesigned from the ground up. Next gen graphics, controls, dialogue/trust system, horror atmosphere, the feeling of paranoia and isolation, etc.

I loved the game and will be buying this no question. Maybe it’s just not for you. *shrug*

I liked the game in 2002 when it came out, but it doesn't hold up today. Unless they fix the trust NPC system and remove the scripted burst outs it's not enough for me to want to buy this.

Not sure I agree with that personally I still think The Thing on Xbox original and PS2 is a classic game even today, cant wait for the remaster. The NPC system was not perfect, but it didnt really need to be, there was never a point in the game, unless glitched, where you had more than 4 people following you in a squad.

Graphics are indeed old but its a 2002 game.

I have asked this same question about PO'ed, which has 0.3 average monthly players, and Killing Time, which has 14.9, and Dark Forces, which has 7.4, and Turok 3, which has 2.6, and Rise of the Triad, which has 3.1, and PowerSlave, which has 3.0, and Shadow Man, which has 9.6. NDS have just zeroed in on some asinine strategy where they chuck a pittance at a few guys internationally to spend an hour a month on remastering games that ~100-200 people total actually care about. It's like the Temu of game archival or something.

Makes me glad Night dive exist, without them this game may never come back, which really sucks because it is such a damn classic from the early 2000s. Sure maybe the game was not perfect, it is after all from 2002, but damn can we not all just be pleased it is now coming back in modern time, games like this are not often. I really cannot wait, very excited, loved this game as a kid back in the early and mid 2000s.

doesnt cost a lot of money to remake and they use their kex engine sometimes.

The Thing is one of my favourite movies and I had the game for my Xbox back in the day and loved it. Will be buying this remaster when it's released.

When the game first came out I thought it was ass but if this is like a complete overhaul that fixes the jankyness of the original I'm willing to try it. There's this pretty cheap multiplayer early access game called "nuclear nightmare" that's sort of like the thing mixed with leviathan I recommend it to anybody that has some buds into this stuff

They are removing the scripted monster change https://www.syfy.com/syfy-wire/the-thing-video-game-remaster-fixes-issue-from-original-version
Idk about improving the buddy system, I hope so. and yea it doesn't make sense that there's a 100 head monsters running around, but it's a game. I don't consider it canon even if Carpenter thinks it is.
No, the film is garbage the game was good
