No control input works
I can't seem to play the game at all. I can navigate the menu with the mouse, but when I start playing neither my 360 controller nor my mouse do anything whatsoever.

I tried running in compatibility mode for Windows 7, and that did not help. Any ideas?

Alright, in case anyone sees this and needs a controller problem solved: I got it to work by starting the game with my 360 controller unplugged from my PC and then plugging it in again once I was in the menu. No problems after that.

I haven't confirmed it, but I suspect that the mouse didn't work because the game overrode it with gamepad controls, since it saw the controller even though it didn't accept its inputs.

One more note: Before this, I had tried disabling my 360 controller in the Windows device manager. That is not good enough. You need to actually unplug the controller before starting the game, and then plug it in again.

I confirm its partial true, I tried it and your idea seems valid enough to support this.
Except that if you touch the right analog controller you cant control your ship anymore and need to restart it and do you solution again.

is this as close to a fix there is? I do not sit next to the PC, as lazy as this makes me, i'm not walking over to it to unplug/replug to play a game. I mayaswell own a console. =P

please have a look at this.

edit:
just in case it matters, the game does detect the controller, but won't accept any input from it.

perhaps just add an option to disable the controller so the mouse works?

If it is any help troubleshooting I am running it on win10 64bit with 2 360 controllers plugged in permanently and have had no problems at all with any input, mouse or controller.

Yeah, support sucks for this game.

The game helpfully disconnects my 360 wireless controller (disappears in devices list) if the wireless dongle is plugged in when the game starts.

The problem seems win 7 related only.

With this and other games where I've had this problem, I've found that having my Xbox 360 wireless controllers turned off as I start the game, then turning them on after the game has launched fixes the issue. In fact if you start this game with the 360 Wirless off, I think you'll see that it says "Insert Gamepad Now" - meaning now turn on your controller. It's kind of counter intuitve to do it in that order, I think. That's what worked for me, anyhow.
