Help with end game

I have 1-27. I'm not sure what to do with the O X X UP UP DOWN DOWN inscription, or where to even implement it? I've tried hitting the sequence on my controller both static and mid fall on various platforms. This one seems like a big leap in connecting the dots to me, what am I missing?

That mural just shows the distances (can accurately measure by opening the grid and counting the blocks) of falling and what happens at different amounts. Falling 1 block is safe, 2/3 blocks is death, 4/5 blocks will make you bounce up, and 6/7 blocks will make you drill down. It's not indicating any specific pattern you need to input nor follow.

I eventually figured out how to get to 28 by looking at someone who did a play through, the route there is very well hidden, are there any hints anywhere to guide you there?

The room with the map can help you realize where 28 is, and since it's at the very bottom you'll know you need to dig down from above.

This was my big clue. You have to get down there somehow, and while exploring the icy rooms above it, there's that peculiar notch that allows for one extra block of jump height... Huh...
