Flamethrowers....
So, in VC2 flamethrowers were essential for dealing with Armor Techs, but in VC1 there are no armor techs, so what are the flamethrowers used for? Idk where they'd be effective...

They are incredibly useful for dealing with enemies that are in cover such as behind sandbags or hiding in grass, not to mention their wide AoE, you can wipe out several enemies with just 1 cp.

That's true... I've tried them out, and they're way more effective at clearing sandbags than they were in VC2. I guess they're the only wide AoE since there are no Gunners, Fencers, or Maulers....

They're a better option vs sandbag troops than using grenades. They give shock troopers as dramatically large advantage vs defending enemies when compared to other units. Also great for killing guys hidding in grass.

Flame attacks do so much damage that even the attack nerf SMGs do not effect it too much definitely if you're using the Imperial FlameThrower #2.

Actually, as far as I'm aware, attack nerfs don't affect flamethrowers in VC1.

They're terrible when you first get them, as the Gallian models are terrible. The imperial models on the other hand, when you get your hands on them, can clear an entire army out in a single action, which is absolutly beautiful. Doubly so if it's on Lynn and the kill gets her a Hard Worker proc. I've seen it happen when running one of the DLC skirmishes, and the results were hilarious.

They do, I wanted to A rank Welkin's mission and the imps were using the status mod weapons meaning if I were hit, Vyse would have needed to hit the soldiers in cover twice rather then once, I save scummed to get a perfect round on it.

The flamethrower does not immunize your recruit, but enemies can't dodge it. :flammable:

Huh. I've never seen it drop below OHK, but then again, I only use the imperial flamethrowers.

Actually, they can dodge it. I found this out when I were wanting to strike multiple enemies, I had one at pointblank range and aimed at the enemy behind (first enemy facing me), and because the flamethrower fires from waist height, the first enemy ducked down and subsequently fired back at me with his reaction shot, killed the other enemies fine though, otherwise for a "sure-fire" kill, just aim at their feet.

Enemies can dodge it? Man, I got really excited for a second. I know that there are a number of situations in VC1 where the enemy can't dodge, but in VC2 they can, so I was really hoping flamethrowers would be one of them. I haven't tried the Imp flamethrowers yet, but I definitely will.

On an unrelated note, it's super annoying that you can't see how many shots a weapon does in the stats menu, it only displays when you're actually using the weapon in a level. For example, I had no idea that the DLC rifle from susie's mission had 7 shots, I was looking at it, and I was like "Why's everyone going on about this rifle, it's not that good..."

crouched enemies, useful in bunker in ep 14 and 15 if you want to A-rank the map. Can't OHK black elites and grassed elites thpugh

After playing some maps and hours more I'm pretty sure enemies can't doge a flamethrower, even when attacking 2 or more enemies. I think you simply mist an enemy with your flame.

Other things about flamethrowers. :flammable:
There is no damage difference between standing, crouching or crawling targets.
Flamethrowers get a bonus against Bunkers, AT Cannon and Gatling.

As I said, in VC2, they can definitely dodge them. Not sure about VC1, they haven't dodged any of mine yet. Dodging, just to clarify for everyone, is when the enemy plays the animation of lying prone on the ground. Note that they will play the animation even if they are already lying prone. In VC2, if you start shooting before they finish the animation, any shots that hit them while they are in the process of dodging will do full damage, and it is possible to headshot them on the way down. In VC1, this is not true, the attack will still do reduced damage no matter where they are in the animation when they are hit.

not sure if they can dodge them but i would suspect them to be able to since i was able to dodge a flame thrower from an enemy. I would think if i could that they would be able to as well. i havent seen it yet though, but i have dodged them plenty of times. I dont use the flamethrowers that much though

The best way to test dodging is to try it on enemy Ace or Selvaria. I remember Selvaria dodge my flamethrowers once.

Attack Down debuff still affect Flamethrower, I used to use some low class gallian flamethrower once during Rosie's mission, it's just that Imps flamethrower is so powerful that attack down still not enough to stop OHKO on normal enemy.

If you get the flame flamethrowers from the enemy aces you can easy kill with one attack two enemies behind sandbags. This you can't always do with genades, because a genade doesn't kill a lancer behind a sandbag. :srfrag:
