Is there a way to disable that obnoxious white border yet?

I was thinking about buying this game but no way am I going to play through a game with an annoying white border around the edges the entire time.

I don't care if it's supposed to be some artsy effect or not. Not gonna buy this until I know there's a way to crop that garbage off the screen.

Managed to downscale the game from 4k to 1080p, shadows look much better but at the cost of 60hz rather than 144hz.

For completeness' sake, it goes in Steam\steamapps\common\Valkyria Chronicles\data\resource\canvas

Remember you need to rename whichever you use to vl_cvr.htx

All use Durante's Canvas fix (2048x)[www.neogaf.com] for the sake of quality, even though the canvas isn't visible in two of them.

Known Issues: Remember that it still shows the border during scene transitions (ie; aiming). This also includes going back to the normal look of the game when using the full canvas mod. I still do not know if it's possible to change this. (nothing in the modded file has references to it and I can't decipher other files possibly related to it)

I've also discovered that removing the streak effect also vastly reduces the shadow effect. I'll work on improving that in future, but for now the new deep shadows version will have to do.


Hopefully I didn't flub anything up. (Edit: I flubbed up the no canvas only version, fixed it with this latest edit) I'll try to get the dark sky one back after a shower. Really have no clue how I managed that one.

Edit: Still need to look into the dark sky again, no idea when I'll ever get around to it.

Edit2: I've looked into it and honestly have no idea how I managed it. Still trying, but I am stumped right now.

I actually want to play with the dark sky, but last time I tried I couldn't figure out how I did it and now I've been busy/lazy so I haven't been able to get back to VC, so progress is totally halted. That, and my computer died, and it's been nearly a month troubleshooting/RMAing things so everything's just a mess right now.

Yeah, it's really so strange how the engine works like that. It runs really well too so 60FPS at 4K is no problem. (Also, you meant FPS, right? You can run any Hz you want with a capped framerate.)

when I chose the 4k option it only allowed it up to 60hz, so my framerate was capped to 60. I have a 144hz.

My apologies to update this topic after many month, but I don't understand everything and I need help.
And by the way I found an HUGE Spoiler in the title of a topic in steam HUB discutions so I don't want that happens again if I look deeper for a solution..

So I just want to remove the White border effect while keeping those lines or streak lines or something.
So I tried to install the No Canvas version and not the No Canvas or Streak one.
But everytime it remove the white border and those little lines too.

The no canvas version isn't supposed to keep the lines and remove the white borders ?
I don't speak English quite well so I'm sorry if I miss something in all those explainations.
If someone can help me with that, Thanks !

Thanks for making what looked like another boring verbal beat 'em up thread into something constructive and useful.

I prefer the clean aesthetic of clarity. It also adds a certain effect like Borderlands had. The darker shadows option and the dark sky also excite surprising enjoyment. I think I'll try your mods out once I start playing this game.

Thanks again for your work. We go from a clown's trolling and expected flaming to someone using such argument as the seed to build. So, it is shown, that in all things one may find good, provided one has the attitude and skills to create the world anew. Well done.

I see allot of you are pooing on someone for not liking a specific feature of a game.... I am sure there are games out there that you all have issues with that is a feature. For me I agree the white boarder is distracting and I have watched gameplay vids and what not on this, there is a way to get rid of it as far as I have researched.. Further more as far as all the positive reviews cannot go by them, because I just recently did that for endless space got 12 mins into it and am like wtf, thus asking steam for my money back on it.... as far as this game I am glad I got it on sale, and the white boarders should not be there, especially when playing on pc, and wanting to push the graphics..... graphics and how a game looks is just as important as gameplay, story, sound quality.. otherwise why the hell we spending 4-500 + on a gpu for our gaming systems? At any rate personally I like ♥♥♥♥ to be crystal clear with not issues, how ever with that said and I old school and have no issues with games that look like ff7 before the hd release. But calling someone stupid for not liking something is very childish

Steam seems to have caught the link when I tried to repost it, but Internet Archive's got the mediafire link for the plain No Border on an old backup, I don't have any mirrors to put it on because my google drive is full of crap. Sorry. I might come back and do it later.

If you just replace the download ID of any other download URL from that site, it should work.

I love the game's aesthetic and the canvas aesthetic, but I cannot stand the white border being omnipresent on an HDR screen, it's truly eyesearing. If it was any color less bright than eyesearing white, it wouldn't be nearly as bad.

The last 2 bumps on this thread remind me I never actually finished the game.. spent all my time modding it instead, aha. Same thing happened with Skyrim...

Wonder if there were ever modding updates to fix that transition issue with the canvas effect..
