Video/audio format used in .SFD cutscenes
I tried to do a small test with the cutscenes files in hopes to mod the opening intro with the Japanese version song. They are presented in .SFD files in the movie folder, with OPENING.SFD being, of course, the opening.

Using my existing codecs I noticed the video is watchable, but the audio is not played. Since I didn't go any further, I don't know if is this is caused because I lack the audio codec these files are using or simply because the audio is streamed by the game from somewhere else.

If it's just an audio codec problem the issue might be solved easily and the mod would be feasible with little effort. But if the game is streaming the audio from somewhere, then the source of the audio would have to be tracked and modified accordingly.

Any clues about this, please?

Mine look all scrambled. What are you using to watch them?

2 audios are included I'm guessing English and Japanese I couldn't play them back on any player but I was able to convert them using ffmpeg to mp3 and then reconvert to the same original format.. you could try converting a mp3 to MPEG-1 and mux the audio with the video again

So there are two audio tracks? Interesting. Having to audio tracks in the voiced cutscenes was expected but if there's also two audio tracks in the OPENING.SFD file then one of them is probably the Japanese version song. Though it's not actually used in the game, even if you select Japanese speech in the options. The game always defaults to the instrumental music which was also played in the western PlayStation 3 versions.

Seems to be an audio codec issue so I'll try to figure that later and see what can I do. If the thing is that evident then teversing the audio tracks order would probably do it fine.

its simply a softdec container for mpeg video and wav/adx audio. been used for games since eons and here the tool :D http://www.pes-patch.com/2012/03/pes-2012-video-audio-converter-v1-22-by-jenkey1002.html

it will give mpg video and wav audio. the audio works fine but the video is blocky. seems needs some tweaks.
Any news here? I'm interested in this to, I want the japanese song in the opening and in the staff roll.

I gave it several tries but had no luck with the resulting file unfortunately. :/

I even did an alteration to the anime opening song, which is absolutely awesome and even better than the also great Japanese game opening song, to fit the intro footage perfectly. But alas, I can't hack the intro to insert that either.
I keep necroposting when I see these old discussions, at this point I should change my name to necromancer.

You can edit SFDs with SofdecVideoTools (SFD Creator & Extractor)

I'm not sure if it'll help you at this point but it may help another lost soul.
