Yeah it's great, the only reason I bought it though was for the region free feature. I have bought 18 vita titles retail... 11 of them was imported from japan^^ I also got the 64GB memory card from japan.
The vita is the ♥♥♥♥ and I defend it every chance I get. Case in point....Freedom wars. VC 2 on vita is pretty fun too...except for the odd camera that can't be completely fixed with the extra analog stick. Freedom wars PC port!!!
Looks decent to me:

Increase the resolution of all textures and add a bit more shading to make up for the simplistic models and scale up the UI (It's honestly the only thing that is distractingly bad) and it will look just fine.
I would have bought Freedom Wars in an instant.
Had it been on PC. Being on Vita is nothing but a detriment.
Freedom Wars has mixed reviews. Fans of the genre love it, but it look like another grind and a big mess. In other hand, it's not priced too high, so...
Anyway, VC2 on PC. It'll require a LOT of rework.
Graphics aside - seriously, the models are REALLY too simplistics to be saved by shaders, the PSP had the power of a PS1 and not a lot more - there's also a lot of gameplay that was, not dumbed down, but "adapted" to meet the console limitation.
You have less units, spawn camps, and of course those maps that were shattered down to little pieces. God I hate that kind of maps since Monster Hunter, and all that would make no sense on PC.
They'd also have to redone all the UI and that'll include all art - upscaling and filtering may not cut it.
When you show off your game on Steam, "It look simplistic because it's a PSP port" isn't really a selling point.
... while the fans would buy it anyway, I don't think you could appeal to a new public with a direct port.
As another user said, it's one of the cursed games. It's good but didn't meet success. PSP had plenty of them.
See also : Half Minute Hero, Cladun.
But hey, if they want to do a friggin' total remake with full maps, adapted gameplay (as you would not play the same way in a streamlined battlefield), new models, and the original engine, I'm all for it even at full price.
There's tons of games that look worse on Steam. As long as it's properly advertised that it's a port from a weaker system (And an older game for that matter) I don't think anyone will mind, as long as it includes the usual settings people expect from a PC game (Resolution settings, AA and customizable controls most of all).
That textures would be reworked is a given. But yeah, it wouldn't really go amiss to update the character models too.
But the art style really doesn't demand a total reworking. Higher resolution textures, some AA and a properly scaling UI is more than enough to make it look good.
That wouldn't even be the same game though.
Really, the only thing I think needs changing is the tedious merit (Who gets one and why remains a mystery - A bit more clarify and consistency would go a long way - That and possibly adding a system that allows you to transfer merits between characters) and material collection system (More materials from each Ace and a higher cash cost would even it out. You still need to play more missions to craft things, but at least you don't have to repeat the same ones over and over).
Grinding for merits to change the classes of specific characters and gathering materials to craft guns were the worst parts of the entire game.
The gameplay itself though I think should be left as is. It should remain the same game it was, or there's no point.
I do think that the game should be bundled together with the third game. The amount of content of these two games together would more than enough make up for the "simple" graphics. The third game also addressed just about every single failing of VC2.
It's an Action RPG with character customization and item crafting, right? That's the kind of games that made me get a PSP way back. But I can't really justify a PS Vita when I have a perfectly good PC right in front of me. I just don't need another portable, especially not one with prohibitively expensive memory cards and burdened with horrible gimmicks (Touch controls? No thanks).
Had hopes for the Vita TV, but hell if it isn't taking forever to get released outside of Japan. US is getting it soon, but Europe? Nothing yet.
Ah, yes, VC2 merit system. Forgot about this one. I was happy not remembering that.
... oh well :)
Also, yes, it wouldn't be the same game. And I'd be more than happy with it.
Seriously, going from the maps of VC1 to the shattered mess of VC2 is the one reason I can't recommand this sequel. I know it's due to the PSP but it's a big letdown.
As for Freedom wars, it's yet another monster hunter clone with a whip to play it like you're in Attack On Titan. And only one map per mission, which is why I may purchase it after all.
At all similar to God Eater Burst? Loved that game, although it's combat got a bit tedious and repetitive due to inflated enemy life bars and despite the fact that it had a grand total of 6 maps to fight on. Absolutely fantastic in co-op though (Fixes the issue of enemies that refuse to ever freaking die).
God Eater 2 is yet another game I'm very disappointed not to have gotten localized to the west (The chance of the PSP version being localized is non-existent, what with it being a dead system since a few years back). I'm just hoping that one of these games is going to become a hit and open the floodgates for all the other action RPGs.
Maybe once that happens I'll consider getting a Vita. But honestly, I'd rather just see the developer port it onto PC and putting it up on Steam, for reasons I've already explained.
I've finally played VC3 and it honestly does fix the issues of VC2. The map is still divided into sections, but I feel that this doesn't detract anything from the game and some sections are quite sizeable. You can also field 9 units total in missions with 5 units deployed to any one section.
It's already the fourth on Vita in europe as far as I know - Ragnarok Odyssey, Soul Sacrifice, Toukiden, and Freedom Wars.
Floodgates have been opened a while ago by Monster Hunter... which is now on nintendo consoles. While these clones are not all bad, none of them have met the same success.
I'm not a huge fan of these games... I still hope for a one that will make me like them. My problem is the gameplay that tend to be too slow and repetitive, but I like the basic "monster hunting" idea.
Soul Sacrifice is nice by the way, it have a cool lore and great ugly monsters.
And the game is paced faster than the average hunting game.
