Episode 7 - The Battle at Barious help
So yeah, its the mission where you need to destroy that giant tank. My units were mostly lancers, since you know, a giant tank which needs to destroyed asap, scout, engineer and shocktrooper. Scout & trooper deal enemy at the upper cliff mostly without problem, and lancers and tank deal those turrets.

Then you need to destroy those generators, and thats when all strategy goes downhill when that chick with laser weapon comes along and soloes the whole map. First she deals scout and trooper, then her army will support that tank, so its impossible to climb those stairs up to the generator.

I managed to destroy those generators, then just give up since I still need to destroy that tank, thinking that destroying generators would have been enough.. Half of my squad were dying since I desperatly tried to take down that final generator.

I had all my units at the deployment area, trying to take down tank and its turrets soon as possible, so it was pretty rushed strategy. Thinking that If I do it quickly, reinforcements won't arrive, but it seemed to be triggered by destroying second generator.

So yeah, what are good tips for this mission? Should I take more units for dealing normal troops? Should I spread them more across the map?

The main thing to note for this map is that Selvaria only appears when you destroy the second generator (you have as long as you like to set up unless you let the Batomys cross the whole map before making Selvaria appear, and you can damage the generators to within one hit of death and let them retract, they don't heal; the game implies that it's a race, but it's not) and also that she can't damage tanks on this map, so you can use both the Edelweiss and the Batomys as mobile cover against her interception fire. It also means that once you kill the lancer that spawns in with her, the only thing on the map that can hurt the Edelweiss is the Batomys, which isn't allowed to take multiple actions per turn (it'll move once, then shoot once if there's a target; the machine guns act seperately, but you can kill them all). More troopers/scouts/a sniper can also help early on (and you can retreat them/call in more lancers if needed later) to clear out the initial group and possibly kill a few of the reinforcements.

I guess I should do that retreating more actively. At last minute I figured that she can't damage my tank. Tried to block her but then I was Batomys line of sight. Kinda annoying overall that you need to learn all this through trial and error. I guess this map is something where you need to save every turn.

It's one of those maps that's really hard the first time, but then once you realize how it works and where new enemies appear it becomes much easier (there's another map like this a few chapters down the road which is much worse about it). That said, knowing where and when reinforcements appear, there's nothing to stop you from parking a few units at an angle where they won't take interception fire, waiting for the spawn, then wiping them out and retreating/hiding behind a tank. Or for that matter from stocking up enough command points before breaking the last generator to destroy the Batomys before ending the turn when the generator died.

Step one, destroy all the guns.

Step two destroy the generators (use your scout's grenades to knock down the walls)

when Selvaria shows up use the tank to block her from shooting your guys.
What I did(which is use a guide that's uploaded here) was:

Spawn in three lancers, an engineer, Alicia, and Rosie. Put the lancers up top near the tank, Alicia and Rosie on the bottom row in the trench, and the engineer near the first base. Move the Edelweiss up towards the walls, use the Lancers to destroy the Batomys' guns, Engineer to resupply, and Alicia and Rosie to mop up the first wave of foot soldiers. Move Rosie up to where the sniper spawns, kill him, then have her crouch up in the trench near the top of the hill, and move the engineer down near the bottom of the same trench. Use the Edelweiss to knock down the walls, and keep moving towards the main camp. The Lancers can move around freely, as they're destroying the guns, but I kept them near the trench Alicia/Rosie is spawned into until all the guns have been destoryed, then I moved them to the far rear trench(B4 I think on the map), and kept them behind the walls. I spawned in a second scout and a sniper before destorying the second generator, and them along with Rosie and Alicia can basically destory the reinforements apart from Selvaria. After it's just the Batomys and Selvaria left, move everyone into hiding places because Selvaria will destory everyone if she is in range(she sniped my Lancers a bunch of times even in trench cover). By the eight turn this should all be accomplished and the Batomys should be starting to go up the hill towards the main base. Your engineer should also be at the far rear trench along with the Lancers, and when the Batomys fires to destroy the third wall, use your engineer to nade the generator, then your Lancers should be able to destory the Batomys in the same turn. Boom, map cleared AND a sweet A rank for tons of cash and XP.

I prefer to hide my troops behind the line of ruined walls.

but selvaria moves and my troops needed to move up to take out the radiator.

You only need alicia to destroy all the radiators. Have her stay behind the L shaped wall on the left. When the radiators are open, either use the edelweiss and put him between her and selvaria, or use a defende boost on her. Run up a ladder and destroy the radiator by tossing a granade into it. It helps if you leave the rear radiator or the one on the batomys' right for last.

Used scouts grenades on generators. Did not knew they were so effective in this. Saved me a lot of command points, so I managed to destroy the tank in one turn.Annoying mission, still.

This mission is super cheap and poorly designed. If you don't know exactly how Selvaria's AI functions, you can kiss your troops goodbye with complete certainty. Not only can she run across the whole map in one turn and one-shot anyone she lays her eyes upon, you can't even accelerate the destruction of the tank because the final radiator won't come up until Maximilian fires again a couple of turns later.

Maximilian could easily wait you out by simply sitting in his tank and never firing the main cannon until Selvaria has wiped out your squad. The only reason the mission is even beatable is because Sylvaria is actually dumb as a brick and won't leave Maximilian's side even though he's completely invincible as long as he doesn't fire. How is the player supposed to know that without first suffering a defeat or a phyrric victory? All it takes to fail the mission is to leave the left side radiator last because Selvaria won't let you reach it, but there is no way to know that's going to happen. What were they thinking!? This mission really pissed me off! :/

Not as badly as the infinite reinforcement mission. that one pissed me off because its....really badly planned.

This one I won easily first time for a B rank.
that one I was pretty much forced to take the loss, and restart and camp the spawns.

I did kinda hate Selvaria and the Emporer thru the game

I am taking over the world because people tried to kill me as a baby. I think. I'm unclear of his motives. and Selvaria loves him, because.

She got attached to him because he saved her from an Imperial research facility, where she as used as a test subject in their experiments. I believe he has been one of very few people who actually treated her as a human being (till when he told her to go into Nuke mode), so it makes sense.

Yeah, I actually had to be cheap and learn how ai acts to beat this in second try. I positioned my tank to block her and reinforcement. It seemed that reinforcements also move towards Maximillian, so they were killed by Welkins machine gun. And I left generator intact from that side, which Selvaria does not support. And of course, grenades speeded things a little bit.
It seems to be standard in japanese strategy/tactical games to put invincible enemies on the missions, which you need to avoid. Fire Emblem did it also, but at least there the super bad guy moves pretty slowly, so you can avoid him. That is another problem if you have units near his spawn point.

The one where you need to destroy two ultra tanks coming from different sides? Yeah, that one was also annoying, but I managed beat it second try. Cheap tactics. Most annoying thing were those snipers atop the cliff.

Dunno, I liked this mission. Completed on my second try. I even screwed up a little when one of my lancers died in open ground in the north-western corner and I had to dodge Selvaria's attacks with Alicia by moving from cover to cover.

The game does a good job to tell you what to do. The only thing you have to figure out on your own is that the Eidelweiss is immune to Selvaria's attacks.

Otherwise:
1. Kill turrets and don't position units in fornt of the Destroyers main cannon (firing arc shown during briefing).
2. Knock down walls to slow down the Destroyer and make it fire upon the debris. Firing its main cannon will open up the radiator hatches.
3. Use a scout to mount the tank and throw grenades into the radiator hatches. Scouts can run through half the map in one turn so they can spring out of cover, throw grenade, and then get back to cover.
4. Hide from Selvaria's attacks behind tanks and walls.

It was a fun mission imo.

Beat this mission a couple of days ago. It was honestly one of the most challenging difficulty spikes I've seen in a video game in ages.
