You can play skirmishes as much as you want, leveling as much as you want, in preparation for main-campaign battles.
Overall, there are ways to exploit this game, but you need to actually understand the fundamental game mechanics of the game to actually employ those methods well. People say that "scouts are op!", but if you don't know how to properly use a scout, he/she will just get splattered. At early game, you need to understand these basic mechanics:
1. Understand the range of your weapon and the range of your opponent's weapon. Say you are a scout and the enemy is a shocktrooper. If you rush right up to the enemy, he will shatter you. But your gun can shoot further and have better aim than his, which means you can start shooting him when he can't start hitting you with interception fire.
2. When you want to attack an enemy who has you with his range, aim immediately, get headshots. After you finish your attack, if you are within attack range of other enemies or didn't kill your target, end turn immediately so the enemies don't keep attacking you. Then you can reselect, immediately press aim, and kill whoever you need to kill again.
3. Deal with undercover enemies with grenades in the early game. Scouts, shocks, and engis all have them. Use them! Alternatively, use your tank mortar. With AOE weapons, aim to attack as many enemies as you can.
4. Tanks look scary, but their machine guns have very limited range for interception fire. You can often march a lancer to its back and hit its weak point without sustaining too much damage from interception fire.
5. Don't worry too much about rank, especially at early levels. The A ranks requirements for these missions are ridiculous, so take it slow and steady.
6. Understand how sightlines work, and try to get behind enemies and attack them when they can't see you.
7. Understand map quirks. Did you know you can climb up one of the buildings in level 3? Did you know that you can blow up some broken walls in level 4? That you can clear a bunch of logs and boxes with grenades/lancer shots? Explore and experiment, that's part of the fun of this game. Save often.
8. Save often.
9. Save often.
10. Use orders to make your life easier. You get the Evade order for free, and a minimal amount of leveling up gets you Defense order. These makes a huge difference.
11. Understand that your job in each mission is to fulfill your objectives, not to kill every single enemy. For example, in Kloden Woods, don't bother with the boss tank. All you need to do is capture that base.
The game doesn't have an "I WIN" button. It asks for your patience in mastering these techniques and develop understanding of how the AI plays the game and how the maps work. If you don't think you have the patience for this, then yeah, the game may not be for you. Like Gekkibi said, there are tons of gameplay videos online to look at. Don't try to copy exactly what they do, but observe how they make use of the game mechanics. This is a 6 years old game, nothing about it is a secret.
There are some annoying kinks in the game, like moving the tank. But most complaints about the enemies that I have hears are that they are too easy, that they are not aggressive enough against you, that they often waste CPs doing nothing at all. There are unbalance issues, but those only become apparent by the middle of the game at the earliest, and they are squarely in favor of you.
i always try to get my scouts and shock troopers to do those even if the shocktrooper doesnt have the best accuracy and they are more to the shoot as many bullets as possible to kill kind of thing.
also getting those dlc guns will help a HUGE deal. so much that i think it breaks the game. lol
i try not to depend on them much though and still keep to my good guy (default but upgraded) guns.
and if you think it's hard. you should get to chapter 7.
it's practically a david(your squad) vs goliath(super large tank) and a damn god(Selvaria).
or you can just shower them with bullets from your shock trooper.
if you can get your tank close enough. you can also use it's mortar. but since the tank uses 2 command points. i try not to use it a lot.
First, train your engineers to level 6 in order to unlock the All Units Defend order (requires 7500 exp). Once you have it, use that order at the very beginning of each turn (very first thing at the beginning of each turn). It increases all your units defense by 10 for both your current turn and the enemy following turn which is pretty powerful. It may cost 2 CPs per turn but it will basically turn the game into easy mode.
2. Shoot them in the face with your shocks.
3. ???
4. Profit!
ill try this
The moderator thought this is a multiplayer game XD.
Well he removed the ban but to make sure no other Mod will make this mistake too ill remove this whole thread soon.
Look, I hate a lot of things about VC. I've ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about those things a lot. But you have zero ground to stand on if your criticism of this game is that you are not a god of the battlefield that can annihilate everything before you.
I play every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game the way i want.
and my way in this game is to let no one die.
Since the enemys already have some advantages (like this....how is it called....interception fire?) i need to use every advantage i have to make a better fight.
