Can you turn the screen border off?

It looks horrible, it would be awfully distracting, I wouldn't be able to play the game. So my purchase depends on the answer to this question. That horrible white border/vignette effect needs to go.

No, you can't turn it off.
But I can tell you, that I personally think that the border effect here isn't as annyoing as I first thought. If you don't want to buy the game because of the border, that's fine and I can totally understand it. When I was playing the first mission of the game, I immidiately wanted to turn the border off, but since it wasn't possible, I just kept going. The thing is, that after like and hour or less of gameplay, the border didn't bother me at all. I have seen quite a few other games with borders, who are all rather annoying, but the one in Valkyria Chronicles, is for some reason acceptable for me. I guess that is because the border isn't really a border, but just a white filter over the edge of the screen and you can still see through it, basically like fog.
Anyway as I mentioned it's your choise, whether or not you wanted to get the game. I just wanted to tell you, that it might not be as horrible as you think it is.

To be honest, I only noticed there was a white border during gameplay only after reading this topic. I was always so immersed in the game and its visual style that I never noticed it at all, except maybe when aiming. And I've played over a hundred hours of VC on PS3!

Apparently there is now a mod to remove it, but frankly speaking, refusing to buy one of the best games of the seventh console generation for something so unimportant seems to me a reason so ridiculously shallow and childish that I'm ready to bet there's something else keeping you from buying it... is there?

I was wondering about this as well. I didn't expect there would be such an option, given that the game is a console port, but I was hoping.

It doesn't really bother me enough to feel the need to use the mod, but the vignette effect is the one thing about the game's aesthetic I don't really care for. I love the visual style and direction overall, but the screen borders are just too large. I would prefer if it were a subtler effect.

Agreed.I love tactical games like this, but there's no way I could play it with a border vignette effect like that. I have a big screen for a reason, why would I want part of it obscured? Makes no sense.

It's nothing to do with peripheral vision, it's just obnoxious. It's not subtle. It bothers me. That's why I was asking. Also this was 3 1/2 years ago.

Learn what personal taste is.

super old post but Thanks man! the borders for some reason it really put some weight on my eyes and it makes my vision all blurry..
