Which game did they drop the accuracy of your shots by this much?!
Like seriously, the game is unplayable for me because, even with the crosshairs centered on an enemy, my units end up missing the target 60-70% of the time. Like snipers are COMPLETELY useless, because I can't shoot at range, because once again, crosshairs CENTERED on the enemies head, and it flies off past their middle...

I used to play the PsP version, and I swear the accuracy was not this bad in that game

Every weapon has an aim stat, which sucks early game. Every class has different ranges, once you get past that Range stat of your weapon, the damage and aim falls hard.

You'll probably notice this at B-something Desert (I have approximate memory of some terms) and have a Sniper placed at the right of your base shoot someone near enemy base.

Early game sniper rifles has bad zoom and thus you shouldn't upgrade from GSR-1 until mid-game. If you did upgrade yeah they will become fairly inaccurate at long range. But it'll get better as their skills and their guns level up.

As for Lancer, their accuracies go from "can't hit at point blank range" to "can hit at point blank range". The other three classes are fine, they have many shots and it's not hard to land a few head shots at reasonable distance.

Note that the chance you hit the crosshair center is not affected by distance. See the wiki for detailed explanation:

Well then you've played either VC 2 or VC 3, both of which FIXED the low earlygame accuracy issue from the 1st game. VC1 is PS3, PS4 and PC, you couldn't have played it on PSP.

Are you complaining that a bunch of volunteers and draftees that have been forced into service by conscription sucks at shooting when they are thrown into action from living just normal lives? OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!! Yeah, well. They are kind of supposed to suck. Just like a low level character in a D&D game is supposed to suck. They are supposed to suck because they are literally peasants, and if they didn't suck there is no room to grow. When you have done many skirmishes and been in combat a lot you become battle hardened which makes you better at fighting and everything else as you are used to combat. At the end of the game sniper gets like perfect aim and stuff, unless the enemy have a dodge skill which allows them to duck and cover you can't miss with the snipers.

I think you need to remember that you are commanding a Militia army, not a professional one. A lot of the people you have comes from the 2nd or 3rd conscription pick. You are having everything from 12 year old children to 50-60 year old men with bad backs fighting for you because there is no one else to pick from. You are scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

"Note that the chance you hit the crosshair center is not affected by distance. See the wiki for detailed explanation:" That's kinda true, and not true too. A shot that would miss might not miss if you fired point blank. Which is annoying.

"Early game sniper rifles has bad zoom and thus you shouldn't upgrade from GSR-1 until mid-game. If you did upgrade yeah they will become fairly inaccurate at long range." Wait, so Upgrading guns makes them more inaccurate?

Yeah, that was one of the problem areas Nox. Had a "snipe out" on that map, and even with the "aim up" order, My snipers missed EVERY shot, 6 shots total, and the enemy Snipers literally nailed the first shot both times to wipe out my Snipers. This happened 4 times before I finally just pulled my snipers out of the fight completely and rushed everything with shocktroopers

Cool, a troll.

On a flip side, statistically around 60% of your shots should hit the circle half as small as the one you see on the screen (measured experimentally by yours truly). Naturally, this is true for large shot counts and means nothing with regards to single shots (snipers, lances).

It's a mistake in game parameters. They just screwed up a couple numbers for GSR-2 and GSR-3.

That's very true, Most of them hit Somewhere in that circle, which for any degree of range aside from scouts means they can't get killing shots unless you charge enemy lines.

That's....dissapointingly stupid and annoying.

Like, and keep in mind, I'm not complaiging because the game is hard. I've played hard games before. What I see as the problem is the AI does NOT have the accuracy issues I run into. You know the Desert mission with the giant ass tank?

I had twin lancers ready to nail the turrets, and I kid you not. They were close enough that with half of their movement "bar" they could have been touching the thing....and they missed every shot. 75% of the rockets missed the minigun turret, and just hit "the tank".

And yet, in that same mission the enemy AI takes their lancers, and snipes me from 4x the distance. Not my tank. My LANCER, which was crouching behind cover. Does it without missing a shot until my lancers both got wiped

You're kind of supposed to charge. Running through interception damage is an intended experience in vanilla VC.

Unfortunately, that's just bad luck (2 dead center hits in a row) and confirmation bias (try to remember every time enemy Lancer missed by a mile). Objectively Squad 7 has better stats than enemies.

Incidentally, the hard mods for the game (busard's Gallian Crossfire and my addition of infantry ammo on top of it) address the issue of accuracy (among others).

Here are a couple of screenshots of low-level accuracy (Skirmish 1 and Vasel campaign missions):

Now, of course, it's not the only change and the game is plenty hard for other reasons, but if you don't mind - give it a go.
Although I wouldn't recommend trying to load your vanilla save, both for equipment reasons (if you've already upgraded grenades and are using Ace rifles + some tank parts, there will be issues) and for being forced into hard combat without sufficient prep.

The thing is while most Imperial-only weapons have pretty meh accuracy, their sniper rifles pretty much outclass most your side can get in terms of power, range, and accuracy (though they’re only limited to two shots). Plus they also aim for higher percentage shots rather than the head.

Enemy lancers also have much better innate accuracy vs your lancers to compensate for their weapon’s meh accuracy (~30-60%, depending on their level). If they’re attacking your infantry instead of your tank, chances are they’re either out of range, something is obstructing their aim against the tank, or they feel they can one shot your infantry if they’re weak enough

Yeah. That happened to me too. I couldn't destroy any turrets my first time there and promptly wiped. Which forced me to learn how to drive the tank and use it as cover to get close.

Note that trooper also kills reliably if you can get close enough, because of their high number of shots and damage. But they can't sneak up from behind as easily as scouts for close range head shots, yeah.

Anyway, note that I said the chance to hit "crosshair center" does not involve distance. I didn't say chance to hit "aim circle". That means a lancer still has a small but non-trival chance to hit a radiator or headshot at sniper range, and is in fact often worth a shot if there is nothing else to shot.

You may get some more "stupid" missions after the map, but they are all designed to teach some important skills before they let you run free on subsequence maps. Don't give up! Things will get better.
