War Crimes?
so it would seem the world is based of the real world, however in the real wold by this time they had international laws reguarding war crimes, mean while the empire is comiting war crimes left and right with frequent attacks on unarmed civilians and stuff...

SPOILERS:

At the end of the Report that is about Cpt. Varrot's Revenge.
Imperial Officer Geld is executed and we received information that during the end of EW1 Geld was serving his sentence due to the excessive and continued abuse of POWs and was warned, but when he took the civilian hostages Maximilian ordered for him to be executed. (Mind you these were non-Darcsen citizens, and the end might have gone differently if they were Darcsen citizens given the racism and prejudice. But we don't know that.)

What's the question? Is the Empire committing war crimes or if there are laws against war crimes in the game?

In the real world there were war crimes in WW2.

The tech in Valkyria Chronicles looks to be a combination of WWI and WWII. There were plenty of war crimes during WWII by both the Axis and the Allies, so even though there are regulations, it's not like those regulations fully stopped war crimes from happening.

wow you really need to read some history books... and I mean real history not twitch/twitter versions.

Just to get you started on 1 the big bad ones not to mention dumb military idea look up the date: 6/7 September 1940

Just because something's illegal doesn't mean people will stop doing it. Especially when you're an empire so powerful that nobody will dare do anything about it. It's pretty faithful to real life in that regard.

Hello. Never forget that war crimes are infringements of the law, which are meant to be brought to court. I think it's better to assume that, like for the war crimes committed during WWII, those committed in Valkyria Chronicles were brought to court AFTER the end of the game. In my opinion, we can assume that such trials as the Nuremberg trials (that were held months AFTER the end of WWII) were held anywhere, anytime, anyhow in the VC universe.
