Because apparently it's shocking that gender discrimination was a widespread issue in 1960s Japan.
It's because an embarrassing percentage of western civilization needs trigger warnings for everything or else they'll have an emotional crisis.
It's ridiculous, but it doesn't impact the game so I'm not worried about it.
This game is set in Japan in the 1960s and contains depictions based on the customs and culture of that time. These depictions do not reflect the opinions or values of the developers or any individuals involved.
If you feel uncomfortable at any point while playing, please take a break from playing or speak to someone you trust.
It would probably be helpful to include the entire disclaimer, just for appropriate context.
1960s Japan is going to be a pretty rough place for a lot of western sensibilities, Christian values aren't exactly going to be front and center. I think it's probably fair to set expectations ahead of time that there will be subject matter that's challenging beyond the usual depictions of abuse, trauma, etc.
No harm, no foul. 90% of people aren't going to read it anyway and just button mash until they get to the game.
You tourists are insufferable. Horror games have had these disclaimers since the PSone days.
"This game contains scenes of explicit violence and gore" is practically burned into my brain I've read it so much. It's for legal and PR reasons don't worry about it.
It literally is the same thing. ask yourself why a horror game needs a horror warning? then ask yourself why you give a ♥♥♥♥?
I have arachnophobia and even so I play Resident Evil, I can overcome the discomfort.
The warning is for those people who play horror games but have some phobia.
Not to mention, even though fans of horror games are the main target it doesn't mean that other people who usually not play this genre won't be interest in it, hence a disclaimer like that is not a bad idea in case some of the elements in the game result to be too much for some people.
