Anamoly DLC, a different kind of DLC
So let's start with realizing that at no point have we been given information by Tynan that this will be the final DLC. Some of the other threads want DLC expanding on end game mechanics and I agree! I would love to see a space DLC where instead of ending the main game you have elements from SOS now involved for a longer play through.

The good: Anomaly adds in a new element to the game the base game mechanic never had. Horror. In a world that is full of mystery like Rimworld, horror and eldritch entities are no different than a giant mechanical centipede firing a plasma mini-gun at you in theme. Now in practice they are completely different. Research that requires parts of a beast that defies basic biology to me seems like a great way to be a mad scientist but one that doesn't experiment on humanoid entities.

The bad: I can absolutely see this DLC potentially feeling much smaller than something like Biotech. That being said, we have no idea what all is encompassed by this DLC yet. I am hoping that everything I read from the teaser was just that, a teaser. It does feel lacking although I do like the direction this DLC takes.

Of course all of the above is my opinion and you are welcome to voice yours. I would love to hear what you all hate and love about this upcoming DLC. Did I miss something from the teaser that should go in the good/bad category? Let me know!

TLDR: What does this great community think about anomaly and what would we collectively like to see in future DLCs?

I'll have to wait and see how it integrates with the game when it releases, but I'm not interested in this kind of horror in general, so at least with what we have right now I'm thinking I'll probably end up passing on this one.

Completely valid. I do love when DLC comes in to create a new mechanic that modders can expand on to make it something new and not just horror but a platform from which modders can build. However I agree on not purchasing something for modders to fix if you feel as if the content in the DLC itself inst for you.

Part of what I mean with waiting and seeing is seeing what modders can do with it, of course. I'm just not sure how much of it will end up being applicable outside of spooky flesh monster horror.

I have to admit I'm also not too interested in horror elements (although I imagine there would be quite a lot of players who will love it). I've tried mods Call of Cthulhu mod once and it was fun but after that game I happily returned to more normal settings. Right now I think I'll wait and see whether they change/add anything else and if that would justify me getting the whole DLC. If not, I'll probably skip it.

I am always in the wheelhouse of lets wait and see. I am optimistic, I hope Tynan is making content for the community and not just something cool after watching a movie and then trying to make a profit. I have enjoyed 3 out of the 4 dlcs so far, Ideology being a let down in how much it restricts play. Im hoping the DLC doesnt focus too much on horror and instead makes it horror content that adds a lot of unique replays for my colonies.

Personally, I'm not sure on the comparisons to Biotech. If anything, Anomaly sounds more like Royalty: dealing with new faction/s that provide more risks and challenges in exchange for more powers and gear. Just less Dune/Star Wars/et cetera and more SCP/X-files/so on. More lore, narrower focus on systems. If anything, Biotech's a better comparison to Ideology (broader systems with a little less lore depth, new ways to add colonists, add cheap labor, improve/weaken colonists directly).

Comparing to Royalty, it looks a bit more fair. Probably not my cup of tea anyway, but mods for similar things seem popular so hey.

I am really interested in this dlc I must admit, not the biggest fan of certain types of horror but I do love more ways to warcrime and I did love Control, so I'll most likely enjoy this dlc a lot.

I'd like to see Ludeon Studios go out on a high, than fizzle away. I say after this DLC they should tie this up with a bow, and try a new IP.

I'm 100% not into this horror vibe... and I personally think it doesn't square well with the over all themes of Rimworld... especially after Biotech/1.4 was such a meaningful and important update. Anomaly just feels out of nowhere... like a modder's pet project to bring their favorite fandom into Rimworld. There is so much to the existing game that could use expansion and improvement... why this? I dunno. Just feels like a misstep to me... but I'm sure I'm in the minority. So whatevs. I guess I'm just bummed to not feel the hype about my fav game.

Because the Kickstarter mentioned Void Gods and this is likely the last thing on the list. I wouldn't be surprised that Tynan himself still holds to the goals of the Kickstarter when most people have forgotten or don't know.

Ludeon hasn't failed me before. It gets my money unless I find this DLC not to my liking.

I just can’t accept this. I love the game too much, I understand your point though.

I understand this sentiment I feel similar. Yet I’m optimistic about what kind of tie ins can happen when modders get their hands on the tech.

Interesting, you are more of a fan then I am. I wasn’t aware of this. Thank you for the insight. Do you have a link for me to explore the kickstarter page? Or does it not exist anymore? Unsure if kickstarter archives completed projects.

Even if not the DLC, get hyped for 1.5. Should boost performance a small amount, add a bunch of QoL features, and seems to have some hooks for modders to play with.

Sure. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tynansylvester/rimworld

Here's a more recent observation: https://www.reddit.com/r/RimWorld/comments/1bd7gtj/ladies_and_gentlemen_void_gods/

Stuff like different religions wasn't added until Ideology. Faction relations have been added for a while but i don't think it's very deep myself, definitely the weakest aspect of RimWorld atm. It definitely feels that Tynan is checking off the boxes in the original Kickstarter. Let's hope he adds more stuff.
