For DLC, the general consensus is Biotech. It’s the most expensive but it adds a ton of content. Since the Anomaly DLC is launching soon, the dev might put Biotech on sale so I’d not buy it right now.
They are worth it to be honest... id say ideology and especially biotech add a lot of features and diversify how you play. Nobility a little less so but its a nice bit of flavour all the same.
I like Rimworld more like a colony simulator and survival game so I make very little use of the Royalty and Ideology DLCs, and even without Biotech, vanilla Rimworld would still be very enjoyable to play.
The base game without mods isn't even worth playing, the base game is fine if you mod the heck out of it.
Biotech certainly adds the most, but I've had plenty of fun with Royalty and Ideology too.
