How do I stay on 1.4?

I know you click the beta options then select the version, but is there anything else I need to do since I play with mods?

The best thing to do is to copy the game anywhere steam doesn't manage, copy the workshop folder to that instance's mods folder, and use the -savedatafolder argument to keep your saves and configs separate.
