The Grateful Thread
(Yes, the pun is intended. Yes, it’s awkward)

The thing I’m looking forward to the most in the 1.5 updates? BOOKS. To imagine a colonist sitting in a devilstrand chair while reading Rimworld’s version of “The Lusty Argonian Maid” in the rec room (in my builds, dodging horseshoes aimed toward the pin in the center of the room) just tickles my brain in the right way.

While I probably won’t get the Anomaly DLC anytime soon, I can see the more hardcore gamers enjoying it due to the puzzle “search-and-destroy” aspects. And I can appreciate Tynan exploring yet another aspect of the story generating colony builder genre.

Anything you guys appreciate about the past or present versions of the game?

I mean realistically they'd actually be reading on an ipad and the entire library of books is superfluous as you could compress all of that data into a bunch of PDF files for convenience.

I think it's a silly 'forced' mechanic. It looks great for a medieval playthrough tho. It's top tier for that type of 'era'. But for a space western? It's just silly.

I'm definitely going to try and play the new DLC as blind as I possibly can. I'm not going to watch any lets players play it. I'm just going to dive in blind to enjoy the content fresh.

Can't wait to wait a year for my cosmetic mods to finally update... well not like I'm actually waiting for cosmetic mods but it'll be sad without them.

Ah man, so many good animation mods are going to break ... like Yayos animation is probably going to break hard af. Same for the facial animations mods since they reworked the entire system.

RIP

The mechanoids track you through those ipads you know. It's why they know what buildings to smash into. Analog books are the best way to protect yourself from mechanoid dynamic entry.

with all these books me and my friends bought, Tynan was bound to answer

BOOKS!

No battery needed!

Doesn’t require WiFi or cellular signal!

No screen to break!

Unlimited focus mode!

Edit: I think this opens up the possibility of a mod for colonists to become writers. Maybe “craft” a book, with intellect or artistic being the determination for the book’s quality depending on whether it’s a textbook or novel, respectively.

I'm pretty hyped to see double doors in base game, mods for that were always kinda buggy (Tynan noted it was hard to do even for them!). Search function should be super handy too. And I like the sound of having an option to immediately drop in some new colonists after game over, even if we could essentially already do that with dev mode or Character Editor. A fresh band of space refugees landing in the burning ruins of the original colony and trying to piece everything back together sounds like it could be an interesting run. I wonder if we can customize their ideology, too?

No, I’m not kidding. Keep in mind I’m on my first playthrough - a peaceful crashlanded vanilla game. I haven’t even browsed the mods yet.

There is only one question. Can I read Tynan`s book in RimWorld?

So, Tynan stole something again from mods? Oh no. He probably even stole something from Cthulhu Mod. Right? I thought Tynan wrote all his ideas about 11 years ago. So? Probably moders stole his ideas?

I am looking forwards to books being in base game. I wonder if it'll be possible to make a colony of writers even.

I'd love to see printing presses.

Your tablet thing sounds more like a mod that turns this mechanic into a more sci-fi themed mechanic.
Besides it is not forced. You don't need all recreation objects. For room beauty there are a lot of alternatives too.

Adding whatever mod idea to base game is basically the response to the many 'Why isn't this in the base game?!?!?! WTF?!?!?!'

It is always better to have certain things in base game imo. With mods you have to rely on them being maintained. Which is not a certainty.

Most forgettable part of the DLC / Update for me, seems to be mostly fluff

Guess it's still a new recreation type
