Biotech DLC on existing saves
Hello there

I recently purchased biotech and loaded up my old save without too much trouble with out of date addons. I disabled all that were out of date.

My issue is that all my "old" colonists are baseline and have no genes, so my fancy new gene-room is of no use at all.
I also don't have the ability to research mechs because I need a mechanitor colonist.

Is it possible for my old save to work with this DLC, and get genes and mechs up and running?

i am not sure if mid-save saver is also able to generate you that part you need to start for a mechanitor but it worth a shot you need to open the modmenu bevor loading your savegame and enable stuff there for it to work

Neither of those sound like issues, that's just how the DLC works. Baseliners have at most normal skin and hair color genes, you can't extract them. You need to find xenos to extract genes from, or buy genes from caravans, then you can start combining them and implanting them into your baseliners. Xenos should start showing up in raids and caravans, and during events like escape pods crashing and such.

Normally to get a mechanitor you would deconstruct the blinky red light ruin on a map, called an ancient exostrider midsection (and then complete a few extra steps). This wont exist on your map if you loaded an old save, but you can settle a new map tile to find one. There's also rare events to find them in other ways.

That said, if you were playing a save with mods and removed the mods, your save is probably corrupt in multiple ways, some of them may not be immediately apparent. The Mid-saver saver mod schwarzrotes posted might help fix some of them, though it doesn't always work. It's just not a good idea to remove mods from a save if you aren't 100% certain it's safe and you know what you are doing. It's probably time to start a new save regardless.

I fixed the issue :) I had some vanilla extended mod installed that caused a lot of issues like births not working and so on.
I made the choice to spawn the quest for the trashed ship containing the chip, and now eveythings is going forward progression-wise.

About the gene stuff I did get some raids, droppods and so on containing other "races". I was simply afraid that those wouldn't come and I would be locked to baseliners for ever.
How did get the quest to spawn?

I'd guess dev mode.
