Any reason to use shelves over stockpile zones?
Whats the difference?

A double shelf stores 6 items but takes 2 tiles only. Items do not deteriorate when left outside on a shelf.

Wanted to write bout shelved corpses do not affect mood but damn last update :(
Small corpses can also be stored on shelves, in addition to being triple the capacity of regular tiles. Items stored on shelves also have no effect on beauty or a room, whereas on the floor they are -12.

Shelves are better in every way, so you're looking for reasons to use stockpiles over them, and I guess that'd be a lack of wood

Shelves can be made from any stone, wood or metal material, so lack of wood isn't a problem.

A shelf is 1x2 and stores 6 items. Just leaving stuff on the floor in a stockpile takes up 1 tile each. With shelves you're saving 4 tiles. If you just leave stuff on the ground your storage area will fill up VERY quickly.

Shelves store 3x the items per tile, and items don't have negative beauty on shelves so you can have them anywhere and not annoy you people.
