When you select a 30% world it only generates 30% of a world. If you want a full world with land on all sides, select 100% at world creation.
Earth is flat, so there is nothing on the other side...
That is your choice. Also it has to do about how much you want to load in. Just because you can have a large map does not mean it is good for the game. The more stuff the game has to think about, the slower things get.
Yeaaaa about "larger = bad" ... you do know it generates the tiles and thats it?... it only generates stuff it needs to think about if you enter a MAP on any tile, otherwise their empty and non existend.

Also yes, as others said, increse the "landmass" in the planet generation screen = more landmass and thus more stuff. Then again, earth is around 70% water itself so the 30% land on rimworld are basicaly "what if Pangea never split up and would still be around".
Well it's not earth at all so pretty much any landmass level is perfectly valid. You do just set global coverage when you are setting globe settings and factions, same screen. I wouldn't both doing 100% really, not like you are ever likely to leave your little corner anyway. If it's not in like 10 tiles or 20 by a decent road you'll probably never visit it.

A 100% world does have a noticeable difference in performance compared to a 30% world. Mainly it takes longer to open the world map, and daily autosaves can noticeably hitch on some systems with all the extra details to save. I don't know about TPS, but world tiles have to tick to some extent to handle things like pollution spread.

Mostly because there's not much benefit to generating a full world. At 30% you still get the full gambit of biomes from extreme desert to a frozen north pole. Generating more mostly just ends up meaning you have longer travel time, which doesn't really add a whole lot unless you're specifically trying to do a nomadic playthrough.
