I do get massive frame drops on the world map for some reason, but the rest of the game runs pretty fluid. Massive endgame raids might also cause a problem, but I'm usually already dead by then. So it's fine.. All in all the game performs really well even on outdated hardware.
Granted, you may suffer slowdowns at times. I'd probably lean toward smaller colonies instead of huge 30+ pawn towns with an older rig, and keeping mods sensible.
