DLC: Which and all at once?
Hi folks, I've been enjoying the game for 6 or so months now and I'm interested in the DLC. What i'd like to know is, do they ever go on sale? Should I get all at once or one at a time in order to get the most out of them?

I'd get BIO. It adds the most to the game along with the 1.4 QOL changes. If the others interest you go for it.

You're asking this question when the same question was literally on the front page of this forum - it's only been bumped off because of this post. :steamfacepalm:

You can get them at the same time if you'd like. In the mods menu, you can disable or enable any official expansions you want. So if you get them all at once, you always have the option of only using one at a time.

The humble bundle has a sale on for Royalty and Ideology.

So far my favourite is Biotech. All of the DLCs are great though. Royalty is the most lackluster in my opinion, but that's due to AI egregiously not using psycasts.

Biotech without a doubt. Ideology is very close behind it, for me. Royalty is ehhh... not as great as the other two, though I'd still overall recommend it.

Be brave..... It's worth the extra hours at work.

Biotech is probably going to win out. The mad scientist fun, killer robot fun, and mass production of small shrieking proto-colonists add up to quite a bit to do.

Ideology's worth a look, too, especially if you like to make colonies to a theme like mad scientists, tribal cannibals, or underground-dwelling, nutrient paste-loving organ harvesters (the latter seems to be normal for many pre-Ideology but now the colonists will actually like it because their religion says so!). Mods out there for Ideology allow a lot of new memes and precepts too, so you can make a colony of bushido-following monks who are honor-bound to help travelers or pirates hated by all civilized folk who love to raid and enjoy the presence of ruined junk from previous civilizations.

Royalty is probably okay, but I've just never felt like picking it up. It seems a bit narrower in focus, but may be right up some peoples' alleys.

I don't expect we'll see much of a sale on any of them any time soon, though Royalty has been as much as 10% off. Honestly, with how much people tend to play this game when it sinks its teeth into them (oh yeah, Biotech adds vampires, but they're sci fi vampires), I'd just splurge a little on one or two DLCs with holiday cash and probably feel good about the transaction for months to come.

In terms of content Biotech is the best, Ideology can go either way depending if you like the concept, and Royalty is the worst. Nothing in it is bad, there's just not enough content to justify being a DLC.

With that said, Royalty is mandatory for vanilla psycasts expanded I believe, which is fantastic. Basically a better balanced rimworld of magic, still quite OP but at least it doesn't completely wrecks the game. If you like magic/classes, it's a no-brainer.

Biotech is good content all around, children are fun, mechanitors are fun, genetics are fun. You'll probably need several playthroughs to wrap your head around everything, so while Royalty can be blindly turned on with any other DLC, I don't recommend trying Biotech and Ideology at once. You can dodge some of Biotech's content if it's too overwhelming, but Ideology is definitely the one that's gonna get you killed if you don't take it slow. It doesn't add a lot of in-game content, the DLC is basically mostly pre-game menus changing your colony's mood modifiers, but most ideologies will completely turn the way you have to play upside down if you don't want your pawns to go insane. It takes a while to understand everything that ideology can change in terms of mood and rules, so I wouldn't recommend trying it alongside biotech at first.

Eventually you'll play with all three just fine, I doubt they go on sale though

Thanks everyone for the knowledge, appreciate it and my sincere apologies for rehashing previously asked questions.

A large amount of skills are disabled by default for some reason...there's a mod that fixes it. "Powerful Psycast" or something
