Best plant for hydroponics
Rice is the fastest but very labor consuming
How about berries ?

I understant that potat is a garbage due to fetrility sense.

Rice. A hydroponics basin will yield 24 Rice rice every 1.98 days, or 12.12 food per day.

I like to plant Nutrifungus. Since you can skip the energy expensive sun lamp.

theres an argument for berries; perhaps not a great one, but still one to be had.

if you cant make meals, rice will have a mood debuff for raw, while berries wont.

they also take less worktime, 75% of the work for 86% yield (from the wiki) compared to rice, so if labor is a problem, berries may have an edge case as a solution.

the wiki also mentions that a noble will eat them raw, and i guess the usefulness of that is pretty situational.

but if you are going to pay the material cost for hydroponics, maybe invest in kidnapping a planter.
Fungi grows very fast in any conditions, only power needs are to keep it warm/cold enough to grow. Fertility sensitivity does reduce the bonus speed above 100% but also reduces the penalty for below 100%.

If you don't have enough space for nutrifungus then rice in hydroponics is probably the best choice but rather costly in comparison.

You only have 4 options: Nutrifungus, Potato, Rice, and Strawberry. Nutrifungus's 15% fertility sensitivity makes it a bad candidate if you have any other options.

So we have Potatoes at 40% fertility sensitivity and 0.55 nutrients every 5.8 days (base), Rice at 100% fertility sensitivity and 0.3 nutrients every 3 days (base), and Strawberries at 100% fertility sensitivity and 0.4 nutrients every 4.6 days (base).

Potatoes can also be ruled right out for their low fertility sensitivity.

So you're down to Rice and Strawberries. Rice offer 0.1 nutrients per day x fertility and requires labor 3x (planting, harvesting, hauling) every 3 x fertility days. Strawberrries offer 0.87 nutrients per day x fertility and requires labor 3x every 4.6 x fertility days.

So strawberries offer 13% less nutrient efficiency but require roughly 30% less labor. So strawberries are a viable option if you want to cut back on labor.

Indeed, but the main issue for me with indoor farming is the power draw of sun lamps, so the effectiveness of the crop isn't really my main issue (I tend to use mech's for the actual farming and 1 mech can plant/harvest a rather large farm).

And you can add 41 extra Hydroponics basins (-70 W each) for the power consumption of 1 sun lamp (-2900 W), So if we are talking "Gain for electricity" Nutrifungus will always win when it comes to the food crops.

Since farming nutrifungus has a low power consumption its also a very effective crop when it comes to turning into chemfuel and running chemfuel generators.

Off course its even easier if we are talking a colony with the tunnelers ideology that can just plant Nutrifungus in Fungal gravel (under mountains) without even needing the Hydroponics basins.

Hydroponics are bit dull with the lack of varierty, shame corn isn't in the list. Usually just make rice as far as food crops go. Definietly a bit labour intensive, I might try berries with the math from Hunter.

I had always thought strawberries were the best, since I think they count as higher quality? I havent looked into it in ages though, I currently have a mod that adds tomatoes so I've mainly done those for ages.

rice because of power outages

The only thing I really grow in hydroponics is psychoid and ocasional heal root when I run out, but I use the https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1180192852 so I can grow mushrooms for food. I don't typically have power problems with the psychoid. Usually the power is back up before there is any permanent damage.

I might consider straberries in a late game colony, then.

Strawberries/berries mean you won't take direct mood debuffs for colonists eating them raw, but you still have a food poisoning risk. I don't think it does anything to boost the mood from meals made with it but i haven't exactly paid super close attention.

Meals made with insect/human meat definitely gain mood debuffs.
