How to get chinchillas
I want to start ranching chinchillas, but they dont show up on my tile. Theres a biome south of me where they do but theres no tiles i can enter to look for them (no settlements or camps or anything), so if i cant enter a tile to tame a few chinchillas how can i get them from these biomes?

You could just settle a second settlement to tame them.

dev console them in to force two into your tile? Seems fair to do since you really want them and there's no reasonable way to get them on your current playthrough, but you otherwise want to raise them normally in gameplay.

I like to use the 'Set up Camp' mod and then travel around scavenging other maps for resources and wildlife. As long as you are in the right biome, you can find anything pretty quickly.

Does the 'Set Up Camp' mod work on 1.5? Last I checked, it hadn't been updated.

Never mind, I see that someone took the mod over and updated it- awesome! I like to use it, too.

Regrowth: Core also has Set Up Camp integrated if you use that.

Do believe there are mods to add livestock specific traders that will start to carry rare and out-of-biome animals for your perusal. Livestock traders is one? I believe theres also an orbital trader for animals but I cannot recall the name

Honestly, if this is intended to be a core part of your playthrough I would either edit a starting scenario, so that you begin with a male chinchilla and a female chinchilla - or I would go into Dev Mode and just add a few of them then close Dev Mode.

In the same way that if I decided I wanted to play a cattle ranch, I wouldn't want to sit around and wait for the game to give me access to cows - I'd do something similar so the game can be respectful of my time (instead of wasting it, waiting for something that might not happen. :-)

Its not a core part of the playthrough. I meant to be a raiding group but it kinda got tedious and boring so i decided inbetween raids id just have chinchillas as an extra source of money past the psychite and other assorted drug farms.

So i dont want to spawn them in. Part of the balance of chinchillas is that theyre specific to 2 biomes and not easy to get outside of them. I just wanna go get them but the game doesnt support going to other tilesets and looking around for animals.

so ill probably just do that. Setup a small camp with some animal tamers and tame a few before heading back.
