Multiple Lovers?
I am playing a vanilla, no DLC run of rim world and I have never seen a pawn have more than 1 lover while married. Here is the quick rundown.

I have a total of 5 colonists at this time. My pawn Hugh Dickerson is married to Edie Quinn and has been since the start. Raid happens and my colonists wins the fight. Hugh while defending was shot a few times and while hospitalized he seduced another pawn, Faith 'Shy' Summers, who was caring for him after a raid. Edie was not so happy about this and got the standard affair penalties. After a couple on months of this going on with nobody splitting, my lad Hugh here seduced yet ANOTHER pawn Keir Patterson while working in the workshop. Then suddenly, Edie suddenly no longer has a problem with Hugh's affair with Shy. In fact she has no problem at all, no affair penalty, just the bonus of being married. Now I am here rotating Hugh every night with who he sleeps with so he now gets the "got some lovin" bonus with 3 different pawns.

I have never seen this happen in a vanilla run for rim world. I also think this is bugged since the affairs penalty went away after having 2 lovers (either that the devs are into some stuff). I do have to deal with the sleeping alone penalty, however I am planning to stuff all 4 pawns in the same bedroom comprised of 3 beds (1 double and 2 single) and rotating the women every night. So thoughts?

I play Vanilla-friendly modded.

I've never once seen a Pawn have more than 1 lover without them somehow breaking it off with the previous.

Maybe it glitched out.

Just think, you now have a very unique play through.

Rational Romance might have what you're looking for... it's just not enabled by default as it can be troublesome.
Wasn't there a meme for free love?

I had a starter colonist who started out married with a pawn that wasn't on the bloody map (typical rimworld RNG shenanigans)

He then makes a lover out of one of the guests that appears during an refugee event and this triggers an 'affair' warning and penalty with the actual off-map wife. Wife gets 'affair' opinion malus on my guy even though she wasn't on the map to know about it. I guess word on the rim spreads fast ... real fast.

Anyway, silly guest decides to leave at the end and leaves my poor man without a lover and still without a wife. New colonist joins the group and she ends up dating our guy and triggers a break up between our now off-map lover and she gets the 'break up' opinion malus towards him too as an ex-lover. My guy now has someone to get some luvin with that is legitimate and steady.

Haven't actually checked what this did to the wife, but the former lover (now ex-lover according to rimworld) hates my guy now for his new relationship. Since I'm on vacation now I dont actually remember / checked what happened to his original wife, definitely will check this weekend to see what happened when I get back home.

I've never seen a pawn 'divorce' his wife or partner so they could marry their new lover. Has anyone ever seen that happen or is my guy just stuck with an ex-wife on another map unable to get remarried but still able to shag with his lover?

(using free love btw)

"One bed to sleep with all" MOD, may help you understand the game mechanic as the Arthur has experimented with the game's code and whatnot as well as saving you some time if you decide to download it.

OP said no DLC, which means no Ideology, which means no memes.

"Affair" as an opinion modifier shouldn't fade, it's a permanent situation/thought. "Cheated on" as a mood penalty does fade. With the right opinion bonuses it's normally quite possible for a colonist to maintain multiple partners without the multiple partner precepts. If "affair" is disappearing after a second one that does sound like unintended behavior though.

So my answer to that second part there contradicts what you said in the above part, so I'm not too sure what is going on there. As far as I know, the only way for a relationship status change to happen is on social interaction or death. "Break up" is a social interaction and pawns should have to be socializing to trigger it, if one partner is off map or they are in some other way prevented from socializing it should never happen, outside of one of the pawns dying or being killed off by the world pawn manager.

It's possible there is a check on forming a new relationship for an existing one to instantly end even if one partner is off-map. I don't think I've ever seen that happen though. Basically some percent on affair for the cheated on partner to just break off the relationship without a social interaction, but ya that's just a guess.

i did this before. eventually it became way too tedious having to re assign beds for mood bonus and penalties

I had a guy who had like 5 ladies one game , was fun only for a short while

due to practicality reasons i prefer only 1 spouse now, micro managing bed assignments ins't my idea of a good time. i do realize their are mods for this, but im currently playing unmodded.

(i was using a precept that allowed multiple partners that time so ideology dlc)

That is what I thought too. Another interesting aspect is the "Cheated on" penalty never occurred which makes me think the game has no handlers for something like this (just a reminder this is a no mod/DLC run).

Just as a side note which I didn't mention earlier, I seriously have no clue how Hugh managed to do this. Out of the 5 colonists, Hugh is the only farmer and herder while the others are more cooking/workshop/art/research. This means during normal work Hugh is the only one working outside, the rest of them are stuffed in the same building tailoring, sculpting, researching, all that fun stuff. The other male pawn, Fabian Nicolay, has all the traits Hugh has (Greedy, Body modder) along with the "Kind" trait. Nicolay is almost always around all the female pawns and since he is my best medic he has rescued nearly every pawn at least once. Yet he has not been able to romance a single pawn. Hugh literally went into the workshop ONCE to build a single tool cabinet, and in the 20 seconds of being in there was able to romance Patterson despite only having around a +30 relationship. This entire scenario is set up for Nicolay to romance at least one pawn, yet Hugh turned it into his world.
