First thing I highly suggest you download RimPy Mod Manager,
as you can take all of your mods and make a 'mod pack' using it. (Which exports all local and steam mods and makes a local pack.)
There is also SteamCMD (there's tutorials on how to download using it.) It's not as easy as RimPy but works good.
And you can also just simply open up your workshop folder in Steam, and copy the mods to the rimworld mod folder manually. (Don't even bother renaming them unless you just want to, because RimPy will tell you what they.)
Here's is the Git link to RimPy https://github.com/rimpy-custom/RimPy/releases/tag/1.2.6.28
I took nearly all my Steam mods and make them all local using it.
But for years before I did it manually (pain in the rear lol)
You can also do cool things like sort your mods to get a good base platform,
convert textures to DDS and improve load times drastically, and make multiple ModConfig.xml's and export\import them whenever you want.
And if you want to use SteamCMD to download them the syntax goes something like this:
login anonymous
workshop_download_item <AppID > <ModID>
You have to find the Rimworld ID (which is the workshop ID)
And you have to get the mod id, which if I remember correctly you can get that from the workshop page of the mod you want.
There used to be websites to automate that process, but they stopped providing functionality. (I think steam made them stop or something.)
Also, I feel the pain lol.
I can't remember what the mod was, but I had a mod back in b18, and it got removed mid game and literally broke my save so I had to restart because of it.
