How to find items in storage?
How can I find a specific item that is stored on a shelf somewhere? I am trying to find a Psytrainer but there is too much clutter and I can't find it anywhere.

I usually make a one-tile storage zone restricted to the item I want, set it to critical priority, and then have a pawn deliver it there.

Yep that's how I've been working around the issue as well. I was hoping for something more simple, more elegant but if this is how it is then it is what it is.

It's like a Where's Waldo mini-game to find certain items on the shelves.
Being more organized is the only solution.
Such as using a bin only for items of a certain type.

There are plenty of storage mods if you need a recommendation?

Recommend away! :steamhappy:
LWM's Deep Storage

Allows for a larger stack of items in all of the games storage bins, so no more creating a dozen clothing cabinets to store ten outfits.

[JDS] Simple Storage

It adds a lot more variety to your storage options, such as a ton of new containers which can hold everything you need. As well as a Deep Freezer add-on mod by the same modder so you can store all your food items in a single powered unit instead of having to turn a whole room into a freezer.

With JDS you can basically create a one box storage room for all of your crafting item needs, and then unique storage bins for things like a weapons locker, clothing closet, ammo boxes, etc.

Hoarding and sorting are super necessary in my games. Everything goes on shelves that can now, it just doesn't make sense not to. I keep low priority stockpiles outside the core of the base for overflow, a centralized Normal priority stockpile in the middle of the base and then single shelf at Preferred or Important priority next to the benches that use those mats. Critical I save for situations where I need something moved now and don't want to mess with my normal stockpile priorities. And then I know where to look for things and if I find an empty shelf then I know I'm out.

Funny - in same time your trying to save space by not building a dedicated Shrine (altar in Rec room), don't using poker table (more efficient then chess) and have incompleted floors (and only basic stone not fine one) T_T

I'm only really using Ideology for the occasional mood buff chance and for the specialized roles that give me good Mastercraft crafting chances and better researching speeds until i get through the research tree. I haven't had the need for the poker table yet because there was enough rec variety available already, and it requires space and chairs. I plan to do that and have a dedicated TV viewing space when I decide where to reorg the rec room later.

Smooth stone is 2 beauty, while stone is 1. Anywhere you see stone is dirt underneath. Fine may be 3 but its 5x the mat cost. And while I have the drills set up for stone chunks I haven't seen the need to grind out that much stone yet. That kind of stuff comes after the research tree is done, if at all.

It doesn't add variety - poker is same kind of activity as chess. But it have higher power so pawns will get fun faster => more time for work.

Or 12 steel for extra +3 mood (techist style). Because we're rich and could afford it :)

That is actually the exact course I've been leaning towards. I've been building the new rooms with hex tile because just doing the throne room in fine tile took an insane amount of stone to do. Once you get a scanner metal and components are not longer an issue.

Or you can rely on goblinite - Cassandra & her predictive end-game mechanoids :)
Oh and get a mod called "Tweaks Galore"

it is everything you need in one.
- Modify all of the DLCs values
- Mod resources such as metal not catching fire.
- Hide Wires option.
- Remove body types such as fat and thin, so if you use a body mod, you only get the "nice ones" for the males and females.

I thought there was a item locator in vanilla now. Still not there?
