I'm at almost 4000 hours but it's actually becoming difficult to get hooked at this point. I wish I could erase my memory of ever playing Rimworld and start over tbh

I just broke 1K hours played !
I returned to the game about 2 weeks ago.
Yeah it's pretty addictive. As soon as something might break my experience, there is always a mod solution. Great community, great game.

Pretty much one of games that I know of that gets more players the older it gets.
Look at the steamdb charts, it keeps going up ! dahahah.

I think maybe that's cuz it literally never goes on sale and, when it does, it's pathetic so people are slowly deciding to give in and buy it lmao

It's more to do with how other games often mature, especially AAA titles; huge opening (or total bomb) followed by either a sudden or gradual loss of the player base as they chase the next big thing. Rimworld wasn't a massively promoted AAA title but an indie game that came out of left field and relied on a gradual snowballing as people learned about it, combined with being variable and mod-able enough to keep some of them hooked.

If it went on sale more, there probably would be more spikes in the player count, but I'm not sure if the valleys between said spikes would be noticably higher. I can be sure based on what I see in the discussions for other games that go on sale though, that the periods during and after sales would be filled with plenty of insane questions, necroposts and trolling. You know, more than the usual.

Well, there is a reason why it has been around for longer than many Steam users been in the world, haha.
