Steel and Components - Deep drilling
If you Deep Drill on one map

Is that enough steel to finish the game? Vanilla ending?

I understand I can harvest all the components then rapidly move to another map
but this is a bit of a food strain
And I don't want to build a stone 25x25 to later abandon it
I would like to finish the game on one map

Many thanks

Not sure. I have played the game for over 4.000 hours and never seen any of the endings to the game.

Pretty sure that the deep drill just summons a patch of whatever on the map. So it isn't something hidden that needs to be uncovered. Which basically means the amount is infinite.

However what I recomend instead is that you used the Long-range mineral scanner.
And then a mod like [ELIF] SRTS - Helicopters.
I have just grown bored with the super high requirement for components on everything, and then wasting my time on caravans. I just bump up that yield to 500% and get those stuff as soon as possible. There is no point wasting hours of your time to get where you want to get.

Deep drilling is infinite. So you can do whatever you want with whatever resource cost you want without having to leave your starting map.

Also, on a 400x400 map I usually don't even use up all the surface steel on a map before ending the game. I only use deep drilling for plasteel and gold typically.
You can deep drill for all the resources you need on just the home map. You'll need the 'Ground Penetrating Scanner' and a researcher on it to constantly detect new resources. Every time the researcher finds a resource it actually just generates a random whole new patch of resources for you that you can dig up with the deep drill and a miner. It's in every way infinite, you just got to keep scanning until you get the specific resource you want. Alternatively use a mod that allows you to select which resource you want to scan for. Use this mod if you want that:

There's also the 'long-range mineral scanner' which detects resources on other maps and it allows you to specify exactly which resource you want. It is particularly useful if you are searching for components. As not only are components light weight enough that you can haul them with 1 or 2 miner pawns and don't need any pack animals they are also the most valuable in terms of resource to long range scan for because components take so long to make at the fabrication bench. However a single long range deposit can yield you easily 120 components in one go and is far more efficient than making them yourself.

Don't bother long range scanning for steel, while the location will provide you with a lot of steel when discovered and mined it is a massive hassle to transport back to your home map requiring a lot of pack animals.

I'd also recommend these mods to make deep drilling more convenient for yourself;

amazing thanks, I done a ship run where I landed with Plasteel and Steel, as never used the scanner before, but will use now
going to load the DLC up and do a no cheating run
Melting down enemy weapons, shredding mechanoids, and smelting scrap metal will give you a massive glut of steel once you start dealing with raids of 20+ enemies. If you have the Biotech dlc, being able to summon mechanoid raids lets you basically have infinite steel on call. There's no need to ever abandon your map for resources.

deep drilling is more than enough to sustain you forever, provided you put enough pawns to work. Scanning can take a long time, and the drilling is a long process too, but ore veins are so massive that once you get going with a few workers on it you'll never have shortages
Dude, raids are literally endless income of steel, disassemble mechs, smelt raiders's armor and weapons. And components are literally made from steel, so you can't run out of those 2 things, but there can be a deficit of them in the early game.
Deep drilling is infinite resources, scanning doesn't find resources it generates them.

Insane many thanks
Yes, deep drilling generates infinite resources with the only downside being a chance for bugs to spawn. You can also use this to mine infinite gold, silver, jade, and uranium (although it is much harder to find these using the scanner).
