Is artifical insemination Vanilla? if not what mod adds it?
Half my colonists died last night, and of the remainder, a majority are related, a good chunk are old, and one is trauma savant, so relationships and new children are few and far between these days.

Need to bump my colony population up a bit, saw a few years ago that there was a way to artificially inseminate a pawn to have a kid without the need for a relationship, but that was Pre Biotech, so i'm not sure if that's still in the game, or if the mod that added it was abandoned.

Biotech has all the biological reproduction stuff. Anything that added that pre biotech was 100% mod. I've never actually used any of the fertility procedures in biotech so dunno the mechanics, always drown in colonists just with natural reproduction.

With Biotech you can extract ovum from female pawns and order any male pawn to fertilize it. Then you put that in female pawn to be sort of a surrogate mother or a better option is to put in in the growth vat.

post-biotech you just extract ovum from some female, fertilize it and put it in a vat.
I recommend to keep it there until it's three years old at least because babies are unsufferable and useless, then at 3 you can start teaching them how to shoot

Its an efficient way to bump population in a really controlled way, with all the right genes/ideologies/traits etc, however children are extremely weak and inefficient combattants so it's better to have an adult task force ready until they grow up

alright cool, is any of that locked behind a research option? the Growth vat probably is, but i'm not sure about the operations.

If you want a bit of a shortcut: Fertility research is a earlier tech then growth vats and you can implant a fertilized embryo into a female pawn rather then a growth vat.

That said, the success chance is based on the pawns fertility, so really old pawns still won't be much use in that aspect. But if we go down a darker path you can use slaves...

(Only in this game, baby skin sofas and surrogate mother slave farms...).

Sadly my pawns have a tendency to kill their attackers rather then down them. raid that killed 3 of my colonists only produced one capture-able pawn.

Really wanted to get a lung out of him for my colonist with Athsma... and also use him as medical practice for my doctors. sadly, the lung surgery botched, and removing his liver killed him.

Pretty sure you can also place it within a fertile female as well for a 100% pregnancy. You don't need growth vats just because they are faster and safer.

Yeah I'm just stating the efficient way to do it, crippling a female pawn and waiting longer + having to deal with a baby + taking the risk of death on birth is a lot of downsides considering it has zero advantages over vats

Technically it can be a small mood boost per child if your ideology hates vats. Not large but it does stack and without a vat it'll sure stick around for a long time. Think it lasts till they finish all their growth moments.

If you are in neolithic, the main way to have kids is by having SEX! Shocker. Have a couple use the try for baby setting in their social tab.

yeaaah, problem is nobody is hooking up or forming relationships because everyone is either old, related, or trauma savant. So looking for some more direct methods of keeping the population alive.
