Have hunting animals gotten...smarter at avoiding my traps?
I need to do some more research on this. But I've a habit of building trap tunnels for the early game naked brutality mode and both times I've done it, when an animal already on the map started hunting my pawn, he dodged all of my traps and killed my pawn.

What causes an animal to know where your traps are? Maddened animals with Scaria still run into my traps, I've noticed. But do hunting animals know how to dodge traps now?

Yeah it's the manhunter state that makes them forget about traps, so peaceful and hungry animals tend to just dodge

They'll still walk into it if they have no alternative, like in a tunnel

If it's non-hostile it can see your traps and walk around them, non-hostile NPCs have a 100% chance to avoid triggering them even if you get them to walk over them, while wild animals have a 75% chance to avoid triggering them if you force them over one. Hunting animals are not hostile, if you want to kill one with a trap you'd need a 1 wide corridor as the only access to your pawn filled with a lot of traps.
