RimWorld

RimWorld

Lag/multithreading
So rimworld has added multi threading during 1.5 for pawns only and mods like rim-threaded are no longer compatible with said 1.5 however I still noticed a pretty intense amount of lag (TPS caps at 300) and was curious why I was still getting really bad frame rates despite only having a few mods as well as a bunch of optimization mods and yet my TPS still dips a lot.
Now this isent about said mod list or just trying to find lag in general, I already found the source of said lag, Its the animals. For some unholy reason almost 70% of all load is from animals alone, and that's with optimizations and zero animal related mods, before you ask no it wasent a pen of animals, it was just the animals on the map already.
I read somewhere that animals WERE multi-threaded but I cant find evidence for that as the same number of pawns still use 50% less resources then animals, the type of animal doesn't matter either.
Im curious if anyone has found a solution or atleast another type of mod for animal optimization or multi-threading mod for everything rather then just pawns since even with optimization mods im getting lag with 2 pawns xd.
(Already have rocketman, Already have performance optimizer, already have clean path-finding both with and without, I use dubz analyzer to find the cause. before you ask, I have a PC beefy enough to run sons of the forest and the load never goes over 20%, its not my pc)

Animals do 100% need a performance pass. I learned pretty early on to avoid large numbers of animals. Btw cpu single core speed is what Rimworld is about, don't think sons of the forest is a good example performance game. Do avoid mods that make pawns smarter, those are the real performance hogs of mods. I have severe doubts as to the effectiveness of these performance mods as well I've never run one and seem among the few that don't regularly have performance issues. A lot of the threads about performance tend to be running them which seems weird to me.

If I want animals, I'll basically always use Rimsential: Homebound so I can stuff them all into a building with nutrition and receive their goodies in return, without the TPS hit.

Humm, that is actually a neat workaround to the tps issue. Nice! Clever modder.
Yea, I dont know what wrong for me today to end up randomly check steam thread and didnt know there mod that could have fix my chicken and pig farm performance issue! thanks! and also dude. Son of Forest those AAA game not running 100 pawn type game are GPU hungry not CPU like Minecraft NPC millénaire mods with others mods and Dwarf Fortress. It can't be compare to

Pawn AI/pathfinding/ticking are not threaded, colonists or animals. Pawn rendering was threaded in 1.5 (or 1.4) IIRC, that helps with FPS not TPS. If you don't have a strong single core rated CPU I'd suggest playing on like desert maps that only spawn a handful of animals, jungles can definitely be a significant drain on TPS from all the animals and plants.

Yeah, Red's Performance Fixes is highly recommended even if you're not personally using animals, since it applies to all animals on the map.
what im getting out of all of this is that im boned xd
