Do cave bases need support pillars?
I am building a large throne room deep into a very large mountain. Does the room need supports? Will the cave collapse if it's just a big open room? I have never gotten as far as I am now, and have not played much in mountainous biomes.

Yes, if you dig a large enough open space. Same support range as built roofs.

Yes, same exact, and it will continue to cave in forever if you keep mining the cave-ins back out without leaving some behind for support or building support.

Same rules apply... 6 tiles from nearest wall can be supported, meaning you can max have a 12 wide interior space without support.

Think it was 12 block you can build without support or 10 but you need 6 anyway in the largest throne room need so you can plan them from the start.

6 tiles away from any wall / pillar support is the max you can go before it collapses.

This means a 14x14 room is the largest single square room you can make without needing supports.

A throne room is going to have to have like 4 or 6 pillars anyway at some point to fulfill the requirements for higher rank Royal promotions, so you might as well incorporate them into the room design either way!
