Hope a new quest spawns. Occasionally a mechinator specific ancient complex may generate, I’ve had that happen at least 4 times. Otherwise be cheat-yet and use dev mode.

that quest is just the introductory quest. theres also mechanitor crypts that should start showing up soon after in case you dont have a mechanitor.

to me it felt like you can kinda cheese the crypts by just holding on on the mechlink instead of installing it right away.

You can't cheese the crypts, the game checks for you having the mechlink OR a mechanitor. When you don't have a mechlink or a mechanitor then it should appear on average of every year. Otherwise if you do have one of the two it'll appear an average of every 4 years
