Ideology is also really worth it once you get biotech. Royalty is a pass unless you have tons of money or want to support the devs. It just adds a new faction and some prosthetics, no new ways to play. And ive never even bothered with the prosthetics since outfitting a whole colony feels more like grinding than playing
Yes, the DLC and game do sometimes go on sale, but it is usually not a very large discount.
There has so far only been one time DLC has gone on sale. And that was very tiny.
i agree.
Biotech and ideoogy are must have, royalty is less important IMO
Well, since I only have those two, I shouldn't comment... but this is the intertoobs, so you know I'm gonna, right? As a guy who played 1000 hrs back in 1.0... any dlc is new to me. But adding those two really does offer a ton of replayability to game that doesn't lack in that department. Ideo might touch more parts of the game, but Biotech is pretty darned kewl too (yay I'm a mechlord!).
I do have one question for the gallery... if I were to buy Royalty (just cuz) would I then have to deal with a whole new set of problems, like some crazy psicaster completely upending the battle? Cuz I think I'd mostly be buying it for the soundtrack... the idea of a pawn that does nothing other than eat lavish meals doesn't really appeal to me.
Twice actually at least that I have seen(last summer and Christmas recently), and it was 17% off for older DLC's. I got Biotech for 10% off at Christmas. So yea not much, but it pays for tax I guess lol.
Contrary to what others say I will say Royalty is great. It adds a bunch of furniture, titles, and psy abilities(magic) to the game. Definitely worth it.
Royalty brings a lot to the table. The Empire. Psy-casting which totally kicks ass, new best items and weapons, shuttles etc. totally worth it.
The persona weapons are incredibly awesome , very powerful, and can have traits like fast mover that increase pawn speed by 15%, but also can have negative traits
The main threat addition will be mechanoid clusters that land in your map which may include nasty stuff like auto mortars and psychic droners.
Psycasts are strictly player only; in VE Psycasts Expanded you can get the rare Imperial or tribal psycaster however (the only one I've met so far was a warlord loaded with excellent quality prestige cataphract armor and LMG that was chasing the deserter and went down to a friendly caravan from all the bruising; given how early this was, it would've been nasty without them).
Your own nobles are much improved over the original iterations when Royalty first came out and will still do work unless they're greedy, jealous, or abrasive. They'll still demand the appropriate clothing if not ascetic or nudist though, and have both throne room and bedroom requirements.
I'd say getting Royalty just for music might not be the best use of your money, but that's your choice.
I dont think this was included at the time I purchased the DLC.
Alien races, genetic modification, robot servants, children, what's not to love?
This is the only dlc worth it.
