GOG, Steam or website?
Hello, I'm interested in buying this game. I first wanted to buy it off Steam, but then I saw that the GOG (DRM_Free) version of the game is on sale right now. I did hear that I could also buy the game at the same price as on Steam on the website, and get both a Steam version and a DRM-free install. Now, I'm wondering. Is it worth paying more to get a Steam version, for easier mod downloads? I'm not really into modding, but in games like Cities Skylines and Banished I use some mods. I heard it was much easier to download mods through Steam, than the GOG version. Would that bit of extra money be worth the convenience? Or isn't it that big of a deal to install mods on the DRM-free version of the game?

The steam version is DRM free.

Oh that's nice too, I didn't know that. But do you think the Steam version is worth the extra money (The DRM-only version I can get at a discount now) or isn't it that inconvenient to install mods on the GOG version?

That's nice for the developer. Besides that, would the Steam version be a lot more convenient than the GOG one? Or wouldn't there be much of a difference?

i would assume having a steam key and using steam to keep the game up to date and as a launcher and as a terrible mod manager would be more convenient, but i really don't buy from GOG so i'm kinda assuming there.

Buying it from the dev gets you a steam key as mentioned, so it would be just as convenient and the dev gets more money, though if you make a review for the game it will not count toward the overall game rating.

You can also sometimes buy the game on GMG or Humble for cheaper and that also includes a Steam key.

Buying on GOG will come with extra steps required to mod the game or use previous versions, and I think you will not gain access to preview/test versions before major updates. I personally would never buy a game from GOG, both because it's not as convenient and because CDPR has admitted the website has basically never made a profit, which means they could give up and shut it down at any point. The games are "DRM free" so you could download them all and keep them forever, but if the store is shut down you will probably never get an update again.

Thanks for your answer! I think I'll just get it from the developer's website then. That's also nice for the developers I guess :)
