Room glitch?
Hi, I have tried multiple different saves but sometimes I load my game and none of my colonists get any buffs from rooms anymore.
They used to get 'Slightly Impressive' from sleeping in their bedroom, and now they don't get that at all. I also have been watching people using the dining room, and none of them have gotten any sort of buff during their time in there, and after too. This happens quite far into the game, so I was wondering if colonists have some sort of timer that they eventually just don't get buffs anymore? Thanks:)

You using pain is virtue or something
Nope, the buff is there for the first half of the game and then randomly doesn't work anymore after a while.

The only gameplay mechanics that cause them to not get buffs from a room is if the room is too large, or is considered outside because it's missing a wall or something. Some modded "walls" don't actually count as walls and will often make a room "outside" even though it looks like an enclosed room (things like half walls for example or some embrasures).

The max size of a room is hard to describe (and remember), it has to to with the 16x16 grids of tiles the game calls regions and how many regions a room is part of, something like 14-20 regions. A 19x19 room could be part of 4 regions or 9 regions depending on where it's centered, but generally it has to be pretty big to break room bonuses.
Is my game somehow broken then? All my rooms have been the same before and after the buff disappeared with no changes to anything, not even the floors. The bedrooms are 5x5 and the dining room is pretty small, I believe 20x14? But even then they used to get the buff in the dining room and now they don't, with 0 room changes.

What does the room overlay say for those rooms? (default hotkey 'G')

High chance of a bug caused by a mod then. Do you have any mods that change room stats?

Bedroom, slightly impressive (65)
Rec room, very impressive (117)

Just checked, I do not have any mods like that. Most of my mods ARE decoration mods that add small plants and stuff, could it possibly be one of those?

No idea if the room overlay calculation and buff calculation use different functions, but rooms can break under certain circumstances. Putting some deco stuff into a room and then removing the mod for them might just do it.

I dont think itd be a big problem to have decoration mods but if i had to guess you added new mods mid game and that caused a problem and you didnt noticed. Think about this a bit it. I know you checked older saves but try checking even older saves. Also im not very knowledgable about bugs in this game thats why i dont know how to solve it really

I will try a brand new save right now and try to see if it happens again! Just removed all my decoration mods. It takes a while for it to happen but I'll just have to try my luck! Thank you all

Normally if a decoration mod is causing an issue it will break the room, so if you clicked on a table or something in the room you wouldn't get "Bedroom" or "Rec room" and would instead get an error or the game would say it's outside or something. Colonists then check the room stats when doing an action in that room, and if the room is bugged they usually fail the action on the stage where a buff would be applied. This causes the somewhat common bug where a colonist will start eating a meal then drop it on the ground when the bar fills up for example.

If the rooms are being used normally and without apparent issue, and they are labeled correctly with the right impressiveness, then I'm not sure what might cause them to not get a mood buff. It's possible a stuck moodlet on the colonist could do it, sometimes psychic harmonizers bug out and the game gets confused about a colonist's mood, this also tends to spam an error in the log. I don't remember if that prevents new moodlets from being applied or not.

I think it *might* have something to do with their "expectations." At some point, after researching more advanced tech, their expectations will increase and they will get less of a buff from it.
