Hen-to-rooster ratio?
Anyone knows how hens one rooster can fertilize per day?
I have bunch of hens and only one rooster and not all hens lay fertilized eggs.
Probably because little fellow doesn't have enough time to fertilize them all
So what is the maximum number of hens one rooster can handle?

However take into account the poor guy needs to sleep and do the deed as well so it's a little less than 3 chikas per day.

Also I would recommend against breeding chickens for meat because they are inefficient both to breed and to harvest meat from. Just use them to get eggs where you need about 2 chickens per colonist to provide them with daily fine meals.

Ideally you should separate the roosters from the chickens once you have the desired amount of egg layers so you won't need to worry about it again and you won't have any accidental chicks being born.

In case of turkeys, they do actually need a male in the pen for them to lay eggs in which case I'd say you need about 1 male turkey for every 2.5 females.

Cool
Thanks.
So 1:2.5 (or 1:2 to be sure)
Got it.
