Most of the quests are going to be vaguely near your own base - there's only one I can think of which won't be; and launching into space is not something you need to attempt, and certainly not at the start of the game. (The quest is simply there to let you know it exists - if it's one of the few long-term quests, you can easily trash it then come back to that one later if you feel so inclined.)
The icons on the world map are a bit similar and the first couple of times it’s hard to tell what’s going on.
Your colony is the largest icon and it’s colored blue. If you are looking at the base map and select world, your base is in the middle.
If you jump to a quest location on the world map you have to find your base. You might need to go back and forth between the world map button (your base is in the middle) and the quest location.
Once you find your base and the quest location, click on your base and form a caravan (you can cancel later), then choose the quest location. The amount of travel time shown is the base amount -it will be adjusted based on the movement speed of the colonists and animals in the caravan and their encumbrance.
Most quests are close to your base. The “friendly AI” quest, however, will be quite far away.
