Maybe make bionics require maintenance?
Aside from the fact they don't heal (excluding archotech) bionics seem a bit overpowered. Yes they require a fair up front cost in resources but after that it's a permanent buff. Realistically things like implants may last a long time but not forever. Another factor is immune rejection, although I appreciate making things too complicated turns into micromanaging and is therefore a bad idea. Anyway just something I was wondering about.

bionics definitely heal though?

I have seen them get hit and they always return to full health. I actually have no idea if they repair them or it just naturally heals but I have never seen permanently damaged bionics. They also repair prosthetics, I'm fairly certain, as I've seen prosthetics legs and arms getting healed. Though I've never 'witnessed' it directly.

That might be a mod that you are running that causes permanent damage to bionics.

Your colonists are meant to be full of bionics eventually as part of natural progression, it's kind of a core part of the game. The cost is pretty high, it's like 15-20 "bionic" items per colonist if you have all the DLC, this takes an extraordinary amount of time and resources to craft and install and you might not complete it by the time you finish the run especially with a larger colony. There's no reason to have any additional cost on top of that, nor any reason to have any "downside" to the parts. They are meant to be a good thing, that's why they are so expensive.

And yes, they do heal, and they don't bleed, feel pain or get infected. They are just a straight all around upgrade. The game also basically forces you into them since they are so important. Armor doesn't cover feet or hands, bionic arms do not have hands and bionic legs do not have feet. So fleshy limbs will eventually get blown off, and then the bionic replacements are better protected by the armor.

Many bionic descriptions contain this:
"A lattice-dust healing system allows it to recover from damage."

I don't know what that is supposed to mean, I think it's just intentional sci-fi gibberish. I'm just going to say nanobots. "Dust" in the Endless games are nanobots anyway.

Huh I could have sworn they didn't heal... Maybe my information was out of date, or more likely I just misunderstood.

could be a mod. One mod i used in the past made all damage to non bionics and up permanent

bionics dont heal until they are tended to as opposed to natural limbs that do heal albeit slowly

I'm 100% sure bionics use the exact same heal formula as your natural limbs.

My biggest gripe with Android mods for the longest time is they also used the natural "lay in bed" and "heal over time" mechanic instead of being repaired.

It wasn't until the VE - androids that you actually had to repair them. Which shocked the hell out of me. I just knew relaying on the biotech genetics system was the final nail in that dream.

also if you look at descriptions of bionics they talk about a "lattice dust healing system"

That's just to hand wave the mechanic away. I doubt a peg leg also has a lattice dust healing system. And yet it heals over time all the same.

It's definitely an interesting challenge to spend resources to heal the. Just a few days in bed.

And, if there actually was a "Lattice Dust Healing System" we wouldn't need artificial limbs to replace missing or damaged ones... :)

To fully flesh out such a crafted thing, some part of the crafting process (item or a new bench) should require Glitterworld Medicine. (The only thing I can think of atm that has nannites other than, perhaps, one of the Mechanite ailments.)
