What scenario starts with what tech level
So Googling anything to do with Rimworld's tech levels seems to exclusively bring up threads on advancing your tech level. I don't want that. I've had the Tech Advancing mod pretty much forever, though I rarely use it.

What I'd like to know is what scenarios start you off at what tech level. New Tribes start at neolithic, and New Arrivals seem to be modern. But that still leaves New Squad, New Hideout, and New Kingdom.

Alternatively, an easy way to check would be great. Then it should work on modded factions as well.

Okay, so I guess New Kingdom is also pretty obvious. Medieval. But in my defence, I thought it was related to the Royalty DLC, which would have made it Spacer or something.

The only way I know to check research level is to start a colony and look in the Research menu. It will state that you're Neolithic, Industrial, Spacer, or nothing at all when clicking on a tech. In vanilla the tribal start has the neolithic tech level, crashlanded has industrial, and rich explorer has spacer. When it lists nothing that means the tech is at or below your tech level.

Your other scenarios are from mods, so I'm not sure what their tech levels are, sorry. =(

Yeah, base game with DLC only has Crashlanded, Lost Tribe, The Rich Explorer, and Naked Brutality.

But to actually answer your question, tech level and pre-completed research is based on the faction, of which there are two provided. So if the game says your faction is New Arrivals, you're industrial. If it says New Tribe, it's Neolithic. If it says something else, it's up to the mod author.

If you know the mod adding the start and the mod author isn't around, I can look into it. Faster would be to turn Tech Advancing on, start a new game with that start, and then check Tech Advancing's config. It'll specify the colony's current tech level.

New Hideout is also industrial, New Squad also should be (but to be fair, I never started with that)
