How to make animals attack? (like chickens and rats)
I know about training in attack and then releasing the animals to attack people but i was wondering about some videos that I saw where people where using chickens and rats to attack people it didn't look like they did anything other then tame the animal and set a zone near the enemies but when I tried doing that all of mine just got shot and tried to run away and you can't tame them to attack. I was trying this just because I thought it would be funny to kill my enemies with chickens.

rats and chickens can't be trained to attack without mods

Make zones across where raiders will likely travel.

set them to defense i guess. Can be trained up to defend an area

No, they can NOT be trained; those types of animals can only be used via zoning. Raiders will attack them as they pass, causing the animals in the zone to respond.

I personally recommend an Ablative Squirrel Shield, IF you can take the FPS hit from having so many animals.

Just stick with wild boars. Sending out your melee tamer with a pack of wild boars and their little ones is great fun. They multiple quickly, graze for food, and do a decent amount of damage for what they are worth.

Sure, most of them will die in the resulting battle, but hey at least there will be a feast when it's over. You also get pigskin as a bonus. Rest well Bacon, you did a good job. Now be a good meal.

You can only "Order" animals to attack enemies if they've been trained in "Release."

However, raiders and other enemies will attack any animal/pet asset belonging to the player. This will result in defensive behavior when it's triggered, which means many/most animals will respond aggressively.

So, what players do who use animals that can't be trained in "Release" is to quickly force them into a Zone where the enemy will be or can easily see/target for attack. When these normally peaceful animals get there, they're attacked by the enemy and that will trigger aggression.

For Boomalope types, it's the "splosions" and raiders on fire that the players want. :) So, they'll typically order most of their 'splodey" animals there and hold back a few breeders. (I've done that a few times long ago, but I don't normally breed them.)

I don't use this tactic frequently. I've also not used it with animals that have no Agression/Revenge mechanics, so I can't say what's going on with "chicken attacks" and the like. The only animals I've used in this way are those that can't be trained in Release and have a Revenge mechanic, like Muffalo. (Because they are big targets and easy for raiders to hit as well as acting as mobile shields.)

This ^

Animals will flee if they don’t have “guard” or aggression. So a muffalo will stay in its zone, but not a chicken. I think this mechanic was changed somewhere along the line such that untamable animals like squirrels and chickens can’t be used to attack effectively but I remember an xwynns 1.0 series where he used squirrels. Untamable animals can still be used as effective distractions, but IMO using meat shields of animals not trained for combat is exploity.

If an animal has a retaliation chance when hunted/tamed, it's usable as a zoned meatshield, and will attack raiders when attacked. Swarms of squirrels melt *anything*.
