Extreme lag in a heavily modded game with no apparent cause
Hey y'all, I've suddenly gotten extreme lag, down to 10 TPS and 5 FPS. My game is heavily modded but I hadn't added any new mods within a few days of this occurring. As well, Rimworld is not utilizing my computer really at all, save for lots of memory usage. Anyone know what's going on? I'm trying to figure it out with dub's performance analyzer, but it's obtuse and hard to understand.

Try loading the game without any of the mods.

Cause most likely the fact that u have so many mods is the cause of the lag.

Yeah, I suspect it’s a mod.

More like ALL the mods loaded in at once

Again, it doesnt matter if rimworld is not using "all of your computer". Thats simply because it CANT. Rimworld has no multi threading support, so even if you only have 2 cores with 50000000000000000000000ghz it will still only utilize one, most of the time the first one, thats already used to 50% by steam, browsers and or other programms.

If you have something like 8 core machine, it will utelize one core of it. The first one most likely.
Try to go in your task manager, set up priority of rimworld to very high, and move it from the first core to the middle one, so it stops trying to pressurize itself into the core that is running steam, browsers and all of that jazz.
As long as rimworld wont (as it will never) move into MT support, you can arrive with NASA like equiment strong enough to run 25 times all Battlefield games at once on max graphics, it will still end up heavly lagging even in vanilla endgame, and with many mods midgame.

Rimthreaded is trying to mod in MT, but I higly doubt your giant mod list is gonne be compatible ;D.
But give the mod a try next time you start a new game with less mods. Its a godsent

No apparent cause? How about the heavily modded part? Also the more mods you use, the higher chance of a compatibility issue, which might be the cause.

Some mods cause lag if pathing can't be found or no stockpiles are available. Some that comes to mind are HaulTeleporter and Hauling Bot.

But obviously none of us can speculate why your game is having lag, since we don't know what mods you have installed

Mods that affect a pawn's speed can cause lag if you make them too fast for the game to handle, also depends on how many mods your using at once

Are you using Hospitality? I recently found that it can cause some pretty serious slow down with it enabled.

If you don't have it I recommend Rocketman, its a great mod that greatly improves performance.

Otherwise there's not much we do without a list of all of your active mods to try and suss out which might be the primary culprit of the lag.
