Loving this game, just a casual here but damn I found dev mode in options and just had to have a tinker (willpower -50) I just cant stop spawning in stuff now, I’m so close to permanently hitting the delete dev mode button? Anyone else kinda cheat their colonies too lol?

I only use dev mode to toggle some of the view to design my base defence, and maybe to fix bugged quests.

But not to spawn items as the game already have difficulty slider for a lot of aspects so you can just make it easier.

However, you are free to play the way you like it as you are the one that is enjoying it yourself.

It's certainly a slippery slope. I have the temptation, but I manage to keep it in check, mainly because if I don't, I stop seeing the challenge and thus the enjoyment of the game.

But yeah, the option to permanently disable dev mode was implemented specifically for those who couldn't control themselves, so you're certainly not alone.

The only time I've used it was to fix a screw up with a custom ideology where I forgot to set the rituals up when I started.

It is a temptation for some, but I can't remember using it all that much.

Disable it permanently if you lack the self-control to moderate your own game, which you state clearly you do.

Darn tootin'.

My two silver: I mostly just use dev mode to fix the game when it screws something up. Say, when I move a flower pot and the roses that were growing in it don't move with the pot and end up growing in midair.

Play like you want to play, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if cheating in a videogame is where your willpower suddenly gives out I don't even know what to say lol.

I use the dev mode when I have a colony that's going nice and don't feel like losing it all because one centipede dropped in the middle of my base and messed up every single one of my pawns only because they are OP on combat extended mod. I also use it to fix some stuff, bugs, whatnot. I could play without it, but I don't like being forced to lose progress in a game where I can set my own rules.

Only keep it active when I experience bugs it helps

I use it to cheat when randy decides to toss me something game-ending in the first few days of doing a solo naked tribal to save me the time of restarting and to deal with the occasional bug. I use it for testing things out too and reload when I'm done.

I've used it when testing something and only a couple of times in a running playthrough, usually to correct something I felt was "wrong" or to save a particularly interesting playthrough.

I don't really comprehend the lack of impulse control nor the worry about a lack of impulse control stated by many gamers when confronted with devtools, cheats, and the like. It's not a targeted criticism - I just don't "get it." I'm no better than the next guy, but if there's a cheat and i don't feel I should use it, then... I mean... Well, I've made a decision, right?

"There's a light-socket! I better not stick my tongue in it."

<time passes>

"Whelp, here I go sticking my tongue in light-sockets, again."

:)

I would not recommend using the "permanent disable" feature. But, just in case someone comes across this and wants to restore it:

https://rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Development_mode#Permanently_disable

"In the Options menu in-game, you have the choice to 'permanently' disable development mode. This prevents you from cheating using this.

You can reset it by deleting the 'DevModeDisabled' file can be found in the config folder

It can be retrieved through: Start+R > appdata > LocalLow > Ludeon Studios > Rimworld by Ludeon Studios > Config. "

I laughed when I saw the option check box to "permanently disable" dev mode, but it seems they did make it for a reason.
