Does it affect the beds on both sides or only one?

Vitals monitors boost all beds adjacent to the monitor itself, so yes both beds are getting the benefit.

Vitals monitors affect the first block all around themselves.

So if you place a Vitals monitor down, and then place a bed facing the monitor directly touching it, you get the best setup.

for ages, and it's imo the easiest to set up layout.

You can hook up 8 beds to a vital monitor, just like a single end table.
