It is vanilla, and they will combine stacks even if it doesn't save space.
It's a decent mod if you want to avoid having partial stacks to begin with, but it will break your game repeatedly in several ways and require reloading your save. I used to use it before the vanilla stack cleanup was added, I was happy to drop it though. Lets just say there's a reason vanilla works the way it does here, the reservation system is important for stability.
Oh good to know. I deleted the original post so I could go check myself rather than possibly spread misinformation.
Unfortunately, it's the only mod I know that will do what OP wants, probably for the same reason you state ;D
Yes, it can get wonky sometimes, but pawns should (more or less) merge stacks automatically. You can order a pawn to combine stacks, or increase the priority of "Haul" on the work tab.
